I give this a five not because it's the best but because it reminds me of the old days when families went out to dinner to eat. After covid a lot of buffets went under and the ones that are still around are just not that good. This one is great. You can get your own drink, which I love, but if you want someone to bring it to you, you can do that as well. You pay before you eat. Which is something else I like about this place. My favorite was the little fried fish they had. Their smaller crab ragoon is better than the bigger one. Their rice has a lot of flavor. As well as their noodles. The soups are good. Not the best but they are better then most. My parents would have loved the egg patties they have. Not only because the gravy is on the side so you can put as little or as much as you want but they are still pretty big. I didn't liek the egg roll. I had many different types and most of the types i could take it or leave it. This one I'm leaving behind. Only one place i know makes the best egg roll and this one isn't it. Kids would probably love the dessert. They have quite a bit of a selection. The only downside is that I wish there were more greens. They only had one broccoli dish. While most other places would have green beans or different vegetables dishes. I know most people just want meat for the price they are paying. And it is more on the expensive side of a buffet compared to others especially for the size of the place. It is kinda small but that is what I love and miss...

10-3-25 dining at the Great Wall King Buffet

Pricing: (Drinks are included in the pricing) Monday - Friday, lunch, 11:00pm-3:30pm, $15.71 Monday - Friday, dinner 3:30-8:00pm, $17.56 ($19.00 with tax) Weekends and Holidays, $17.56 ($19.00 with tax)

All in all, it was worth $19.00 for the food and drinks. The food selection is a little less than what I’m used to at a Chinese buffet, but this is Kankakee, and I’m used to more Chicago area venues. That said, I did not think the food selection was lacking.

The good: the plate clearing ladies were friendly I like that you pay at entrance before you sit down to eat the buffet and eating area were clean the food was fresh and plentiful (I was there at 5:30pm on a Friday)

The bad: there is no sushi there is no hibachi grill the seafood salad (one of my favorite items), was had significantly too much mayonnaise bathroom was not the best kept (as an aside, this bathroom had the most caulk applied that I’ve ever seen in a bathroom - it may be worth going just to see how much caulk was used in the bathroom!)

Miscellaneous comments: there’s a whole back room, so you could have...

So for what this place is it is amazing. I read a lot of reviews and some of what people say is true but other is kind of over the top. This is a BUFFET! For an Asian buffet this is by far the best I have visited. The food is great and it is kept pretty fresh. The egg rolls are crisp, the pot stickers are tasty and they have white rice, fried rice, chow mein and chow mai fun. The staff is a little cold but I don't care because at a buffet I'm not really looking for much interaction with the staff. The staff does stare but it's a good thing. Within 90 seconds of clearing your plate, a staff member clears it. Lunch is definitely the time to go as the menu doesn't change for dinner and lunch is $5 cheaper for 2 people to eat. A good Asian buffet lunch for under $20 is a great buy here. If you do come here start off with an egg roll, pot sticker, chow mail fun. String beans, beef and broccoli and potatoes. These are the best things on the buffet. The main thing they could work on is their deserts. They are pretty bad other wise...

Places clean and food is consistently cooked fresh and tasty. Come here often when I make my way down to this area. Took 1 star away because I did not like the fried rice it was very dry and had a strange texture. The prices are very reasonable and for the most part the food is excellent. the general's chicken and sweet and sour chicken are my go-to as you can see from the picture lol

We don’t have a lot of choices for Chinese in the area. Indeed, we have more Japanese restaurants in this town that we have Chinese restaurants. But this is our go to place. It has been for 25 years. Everyone is very kind to us, the food is reasonably good for Americanized Chinese food, and during Covid it was the safest place in town.
