El Mexicano Restaurant — Restaurant in Kankakee

The atmosphere and food is fantastic, but the service we experienced last night was bizarre. We had a larger table of 10 for a work party, but some of our guests cancelled last min or didn't show. It ended up being 6 of us. No big deal. To preface, I tried calling ahead of time 3 times and the phone just rang and rang. The restaurant was not busy upon us arriving. Immediately when the waiter came to the table I let him know we'd be doing separate checks and he just waved me off and walked away. Weird but ok. He rarely came back to the table to the point where I ended up going to the bar for the drinks. Later, I had to find him to let him know we were ready to order and he, again, waved me off. The staff was also lurking around our table, watching us, clearly talking about us, and then as soon as we got our food they were trying to rush us out to use the tables. We were only there for an hour at this point. We were not being obnoxious, or "karens", we were simply just being a normal table. They also never gave us silverware, and since the waiter was so absent we ended up just taking it off of an empty table. When we were given checks, he didnt tell us that we were to pay at the counter so were just sitting there waiting. I dont understand what prompted this rude treatment, but I will be spending my money...

I've been eating at this restaurant for a couple of years the same thing Paella. Well last night 8/7/23 I got some spoiled food it was picked up a few minutes before closing so by time I started eating about 9:30 pm of course they were gone so i put in fridge and called at 11 this morning and he said they ate some and it wasn't bad and it's the next day nothing he can do well sir you were closed at 9 pm he didn't care to hear anything I had to say because he was there till 9:15. I said to him I would bring it back up there I just wanted a remake fresh but i was denied that never asked for money back but I will dispute charges and never go back to this restaurant again. I am very disappointed with them because I felt they had the best Paella in town and I never complained and don't understand why the guy just couldn't give me a remake but they have lost a loyal customer and I advise people to check they food before leaving or don't go to this place as maybe they have changed hands I don't know but it's...

Stopped by this spot near a truck stop where I was killing my hours. Saw it on Google Maps with a solid 4⭐️, craving some juicy lamb or beef. Spoiler: we’ll keep that rating. Walked in blind—double doors, no windows—had to commit. Two paths, left and right. Left had high seats hiding the action, so I bailed to the right, found the cashier and dug into the menu myself. No swarm of waiters, which honestly felt refreshing. Got seated, waiter hit perfect timing. Apps landed in minutes, and my T‑bone steak with shrimp tacos followed fast. Loved the high seat backs—felt private. The table surface though… had that weird sticky coating, not dirt, just some finish that makes your hands second‑guess life choices. The T‑bone itself? A solid 3+, not bad but far from that juicy dream I wanted. Tacos? Meh, thin on filling, more like $4.50 quality than the price they ask. Service stayed sharp, checked in without being annoying.
