This place offers a nice much needed break from the big chain fast food spots. The fact that they’re always busy is a testament that they’re doing things right. The menu is huge. Everything you need after a night out, or an afternoon of watching the Bears lose is on that magical menu board. The hamburger actually fits the oversized bun and it tastes like a hamburger that you might remember from a different time. Replete with vegetables that have names you can actually recognize such as fresh tomatoes and onions, and a hunk of plain old American lettuce, the hamburger is honoured here as a staple of American fast food. Salads, warm up foods like poppers and fries are all about what you’d expect on the South Side of Chicago when it was actually the Great South Side. Service is fast because there’s always someone behind you in the drive-thru. A hamburger with a Greek salad is a full meal and well worth the price. I get a side of extra dressing, but that’s just me. The gyros sandwich is two meals for me. It’s a typical gyro with actual taziki sauce (sp) like you’ve had a a hundred other gyro joints except this one has too much meat (a plus) and nice warm fresh pita bread. I imagine that you could go wrong at Poor Boy’s, but I never have. If you’re looking for quick, non-franchise joint food, eat in or drive-thru, stop in at...
Read moreI eat here occasionally and it's always the same thing. Philly cheese steak combo. I usually enjoy my order and sometimes tip the cashier but tonight was just the worst experience ever. [Monday June 27 between 9pm til closing] I ordered the philly cheese steak combo and the sandwich tasted old and horrible. Had to throw it away because it was near closing time and I was already home and couldn't get a refund. The drink was fine. The fries were fresh and hot but the sandwich looked and tasted like somebody's returned order from an earlier time that wasn't thrown away but instead kept to reserve. It was poorly wrapped up and extremely hot to touch. Hotter than it is when I usually order it. When I opened the wrapping. It was very messy and badly put together. The bread was extremely hot , hard in some spots, chewy and shriveled up. The meat was tough. The onions had no smell or taste and the cheese had practically disintegrated and appeared almost like a glue texture that coated pieces of that tough meat throughout the entire sandwich. That's when I realized it most likely had been microwaved or something. Probably won't be eating here anymore. That's sick. No telling how the other customer handled their unwanted order before returning it. I don't play them type of games.. y'all just lost a customer with that nasty stunt...
