I kept driving by and have been wondering when this place would open! The signs had been up for a long time. So there was a widespread power outage in KC, starting last Friday and, for many folks, lasting through the weekend and into Monday. I mention this because we woke up last Saturday, still no power, and decided to go to breakfast. I thought I'd seen a recent social media post about Cafe Reflections, so we decided to go there.
I'm so glad we did. It's a hip little cafe with elevated diner staples and some menu surprises, too. My husband and I are vegetarians, and we were happy to see vegan meat options and other vegan/vegetarian items (including sandwiches) on the menu as well. They have good coffee options, truly excellent Southern-style biscuits, delicious pancakes, yummy vegan sausage. But their lunch options looked great, too, and I want to try the veggie burger next time. We weren't the only diners there experiencing a power outage, and from what I could tell, everyone was enjoying the place.
Also the cafe looks really cool inside: I love the splattered-paint floor and the decor displays with the beehive jars and the eclectic style. It seems like a place where they threw together things they could get, and used what they had, and everything just works. We liked it so much we are going back tomorrow and bringing a friend.
I talked with our server a little bit, and I got the idea that the current menu is sort of a starting-out menu---seems like more things are coming. I'm excited to see what. I bet they have something good for everyone. (LITERALLY everyone, actually: they also have a pay-it-forward options on their menu, where you can buy that and help the cafe in their efforts to feed those in need. I love that, and we were happy to help with that too.)
Only thing is that I wish they were open on Sundays. We love going to breakfast/brunch on Sundays! And when we still didn't have power on Sunday morning, we wanted to go back but then I remembered they weren't going to be open. Maybe they'll consider opening Sundays and closing on...
Read moreWOW!! My wife and I just happened to stop in on a Sunday after paying our respects to Buck and Satchel at Forest Lawn. Mind-blowingly delicious! Jasmine and friends first greeted us with big smiles and kind voices; Jasmine would be our server. We were the first ones in the door, and things were just getting started. The overall vibe was perfect for a Sunday morning; smooth sounds were playing while the smell of heaven lofted from the kitchen. With one glance at the menu, we knew what we were eating this morning. I had the chicken fried chicken, and my wife had the blackened shrimp and grits. (you can see she started eating before I could get a picture) We were both served a plate of love, food for the soul. After spending the summer running around the south chasing baseball, this took us right back. Soon, Mama B came by to check on us, and shortly after that, her son Mark the owner, came by our table. It's been a while since I've been to a church, but on this morning, the family took me to see God. While there was no way we could eat another bite, we got some more to go.
They are new, their menu is expanding, and we cannot wait to get back....
Read morePros: charming little diner with lots of potential. The food was good and reasonably priced. I had honestly been really looking forward to trying this place after I drove past it. The menu looked amazing. Iâm always a sucker for chicken and waffles and these were pretty good.
Cons: If you are looking to sit and be able to get your food quickly this may not be the place for you. We came in already knowing what we wanted and from the time we sat down to when we got our food it was at least 45 minutes. There were only two tables in the restaurant before us so itâs not like they were super busy. By the time we got our food our appetites had already diminished and we were honestly ready to go. Additionally we asked for no peppers, no onions on the Philly and they still put a lot of peppers on it. It would have been nice if the server had checked on us more than the single water fill up. We werenât even sure how to pay so I just went to the front to ask if I could pay as we were...
