Local Appreciation
It always amazes me how many local businesses Kansas City has that offers wonderful products. The Roasterie features Air-Roasted Coffee made right here in the Show Me State. A tour at the 27th street location, offers insight into the history of this long time Kansas City favorite. It amazes me how those who go after their dreams, do so with gusto and determination. That’s what happened with Danny O’Neill in November 22,1978 when he picked his first coffee beans in Costa Rica as a foreign exchange student. You’ll learn the history that went into developing his coffee brand in his Brookside home years later. With his ongoing mission statement to choose the best beans, sourcing them from the local farmers who own and operate their own farms in thirty plus countries, you will see the process that goes into choosing and processing those green beans into air-roasted beans. The tour includes learning about the cupping process and later, sampling cold brew, nitro cold brew as well as how to make French press and drip method coffee. Overall: Although I’m not a coffee drinker, I enjoyed the history behind this Kansas City favorite, with the cool DC-3 aircraft that’s named after Danny’s mom, Betty. The Roasterie serves tea, my...
Read moreAn exceptional tour. Our tour guide was fun, and created a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. His knowledge of the company, the coffee and the roasting process was educational and entertaining. While the tour was an hour and a half, the time flew right by, as they kept us well caffeinated. Ease into the day of your coffee drinking. The start of the tour is just a small sample, and then the end of the tour feels like a dash to the finish line; falling just short of an over caffeinated heart attack. The tour was started with a light roast and concluded with a comparison two coffees from Brazil. But wait, there was more… just when we thought the tour was over we were introduced to the Cold Brew section. Which was pitched as a sampling of 5 different types… but why did I have and taste what I thought was 7 different flavors? Well, as only what I’d call a social coffee drinker, I was well on my way to solving the worlds problems with all of the energy I had while exiting their doors. Needless to say, I was impressed by the quality, the tour, and most of all our tour guide. Toured at 10AM on Saturday Jan 14, 2023, and I was so hyped I missed our guides name. But simply tipping him wasn’t even and he deserves further praise. Here’s a...
Read moreAs an aviation lover, as a vintage aviation lover, and especially as a DC-3 enthusiast, this place was an absolute GEM! The staff were friendly and the building was clean. The menu was simple (something I like, but others may not), the coffee was good, the food was decent and decently priced. Their area of expertise is coffee, after all. I got the chorizo burrito and although its massive size was a plus, I'm not sure I'd call its contents "chorizo". The design inside is pretty neat, and you can see the factory in the back through big windows. Their merchandise is top notch as well. I typically don't like paying to advertise brands through merchandise, but I just couldn't help myself here. Their logo is beautiful and goes great on just about everything. All kinds of things to choose from, as well as dozens of different kinds of coffee by the bag. I could have given it 5 stars if not for two things: PLEASE give your DC-3 a wash! The built up grime is glaringly obvious from up the street, and it will deteriorate much, much faster if you let nature take its course! My last minor complaint is that the merch is a little overpriced, even as high quality as it is. Maybe in the future they can come down on...
