First off, let me just do a TLDR: This place is 6/5 stars and everyone should experience eating here at least once, it will become a favorite!
In general I don't venture up to the northtowne area very often. What prompted the visit this time was a quest for a decent scallop meal at a reasonable price and at lunchtime. This proved to be difficult on two fronts: 1) we are in the midwest and land-locked, so a decent scallop is hard to come by in general and, when you find it, the meal is general higher priced than most (understably so) and 2) the few places I found that do offer scallops only offer them as a dinner meal (most are actually ONLY open for dinner). The one exception is a well-known brand restaurant from a famous chef and everything on the menu is way overpriced for the rest of the family.
The occasion for the outing was my family birthday meal, and one member would not go anywhere for the meal at dinnertime so it had to be lunch. Enter Trezo Mare. TM has a wood-fired scallop meal on their dinner menu, but I also noted that they are in fact open for lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant is employee-owned so I thought, why not ask? I gave them a call and spoke to them about the possibility of getting scallops during lunch; they were more than happy to accommodate this without hesitation. The young lady added a note to our reservation (we had a group of 6 and anything TM requests reservations for for groups of 6 or more per their website) and let the kitchen know so they could add a serving of scallops to the lunch prep for the day. Thank you so much TM!!!
This is not where the hospitality and positives about TM end though. When we arrived, we were seated immediately, even though several party members were running a few minutes late and my car had arrived a few minutes early. The hostess was welcoming, the waitress was amazing, and the manager (who brought our food) was very friendly and announced each meal as he set out our plates. The waitress was aware of my birthday from the reservation and wished me happy birthday from the start and let us know that they would give me a free desert, which is always a nice touch. When she brought out the desert (of my choice from any desert on the menu) it even had a birthday candle which she lit before placing it on the table. Side note to this- it was also nice that she didn't do any singing or announcements like some other places do- those are fine for the kids, but as an adult I find it embarrassing).
Everyone got vastly different meals for our lunch; we had a fish & chips, macaroni & cheese (dressed up with lots of additions), salmon with cesar salad, french toast & bacon from the brunch menu, and of course my scallops with purple potato's and sauce. Everything was wonderful and even the picky person liked the fish & chips he ordered. The scallops were melt-in-your-mouth delicious, some of the best I have ever had (including from the aforementioned restaurant branded by the famous chef). I chose the Trezo bars for desert (without the caramel drizzle) and, although they were very rich, they were so yummy we couldn't stop eating them (I shared with the table so everyone could have a bite or two to try them).
The cost of the meal was incredibly reasonable, especially considering my scallops came from the dinner menu and almost everyone also had a drink with their meal. It was not much more than we would have spent at any regular dine-in restaurant.
Trezo Mare claims to be an Italian and seafood focused restaurant, but they really have a variety of food options on the menu so there should be something for everyone, from steaks or burgers to Italian, seafood, and even breakfast (during brunch).
Other things to love besides the amazing food and service: employee-owned and operated, they support local farmers and sustainable farming practices, all foods prepared in-house using the freshest ingredients available, recycles or composts over 85% of waste out of...

On a beautiful summer afternoon there was gathering of beautiful people on the patio of Trezo Mare. It was a perfect day, not to hot with a gentle breeze moving across the patio. The sun was high in the sky, but it had already started its journey to the horizon. The whole patio was alive with people eating, drinking, and having a good time.
They set our group up at the south end, close to the rail, in an open area, where a single tree provided us with some shade. As people started to arrive and mingle, a photographer was taking pictures of the beautiful table set up. Magically, drinks started to appear in people's hands and the conversation started to flow.
As old man sun continued his path to the horizon, people started to group together and find seats. I was lucky enough to be with Angel, Carlton, and Danielle, fellow members of the KC Eats forum. Soon, the staff was coming around taking orders.
The First Course was an appetizer sampler that consisted of three of their most popular appetizers.
Traditional Bruschetta daily made focaccia bread, basil pesto, oven-roasted tomatoes, and house made mozzarella. Delicious, the pesto and tomatoes added a freshness and a bit of acidity to the creamy mozzarella.
Crab Cake, cilantro curry, marinated peppers, preserved lemon. A crispy and slightly crunchy exterior gave way to a melt in your mouth interior and the curry brought it all together.
Charcuterie, Scimeca's Italian sausage, prosciutto di Parma, salami, marinated olives and peppers, parmesan, grilled pineapple compote, Dijon Mustard, house made flatbread crackers. What I remember and liked most about this dish was the salami, paper thin, it melted in your mouth!
The Second Course was the selection of your choice from their dinner menu. I chose Organic Salmon. Sitting on top of a bed of citrus risotto, that was surrounded by romance sauce and a basil pesto, along with a green onion emulsion, and topped with wood-fired asparagus. This was a beautiful and flavorful piece of fish.
The Third Course was a dessert plate. Every plate was different and there was a lot of trading going on between the diners.
And all the time we were there we were entertained by Kris Angelis and her guitar.
A beautiful day, beautiful people, beautiful food and drink, and a great staff!
Well Done Trezo Mare!
Well...
Read moreUpon arrival the place was really nice. Once seated we placed our orders. We waited about 45 mins before getting the two appetizers that were ordered. After about another 20 mins or so the waitress approached the table and informed us that she placed the order incorrectly(Unfortunately she didn’t provide us a name so can’t exactly who she was) but when asked about how long it would be before the food would come, she stated “well you ordered 3 steaks, rolled her eyes and walked off”(mind you all the steaks were 6oz) she also brought me a child’s orange juice and when she returned for refills I asked for more juice and she stated “well they said they ran out of juice”, as if that’s my fault. She could have said this and I could have ordered something else! We then we asked for a manager and asked the same about time frame on receiving food, because now we’ve waited over an hour, and with no response. He then stated “you did order steaks and your orders all needed extra accommodations, but not going to go back and forth with you we are working on getting it out to you, it’s only been placed 20 mins ago and walked off”…I am a manager myself and never would treat guest in this manner we then as a party of 9 decided to leave. It was very clear that other tables were a priority over others, but even as nice as the place displayed its self to be, we will not return to this location. There were guest that arrived after us and who spoke to us outside of the restaurant as they waited for the rest of their party, they got in received food and was leaving within the time of us asking about receiving our order. Ruined the birthday girls day for sure, currently looking for another place to eat. Worst...
