I tried the Cellar for a second time hoping for good food and it was a major mistake. Went with family for a Friday dinner. It took almost an hour and a half to get our food. I had the tenderloin and beer battered fries. It was the worst tenderloin I have ever had. Greasy, overcooked, old gray meat. Yuk. The fries were fair however my wife's fries should have been thrown out. Her fish sandwich was bland. The staff was nice but overwhelmed even though the restaurant was only half full. Overall the food was awful and there was not enough staff for the restaurant on a normal Friday night. One of my kids ordered 2 grilled cheeses with no fries ($16). Unfortunately I had to reduce my rating from 3 stars to 1. I will never be back.
Friday dinner with family. The staff was very friendly, clean with a wonderful view. I ordered the rat with fried chicken (mushroom and swiss) with beer battered fries. I got a mushroom and swiss Burger. I figured I also like burgers so I didn't say anything. Unfortunately the 1/2 lb burger was overcooked dry preformed patty that tasted frozen. My wife ordered the rubin that she said was ok. I might be back but the burgers were below...
Read moreThe recent remodel sucked all the charm out of this place. I really don't like the way it looks or feels compared to how it once was. The server recommended the tacos but failed to tell me they were huge and I ordered three. It wouldn't have been such a problem but they were swimming in grease and practically inedible. Scratch that, they were inedible. I had part of one and it was way more than I want to eat. I heard it was a local recipe but as a California Native whatever that was, it wasn't a taco. I greatly missed the salad bar! This was the only place in town I could get a decent salad but no longer. I'll come back when I hear you have the salad on the menu and be there a couple days a week if you bring it back. Just being honest, not negative, I still want to support you guys. This is a Keokuk institution and we do need to...
Read moreMy husband and I found this delightful establishment while in town for a funeral. As it was a Monday night it was quiet, we were 1 of 2 tables. There was a wonderful view of the river, it was very clean and welcoming. My husband actually asked if it was a new restaurant. Our waitress, Jessica, was amazing - very friendly, prompt and helpful. She made recommendations that we decided to try and were not disappointed. The food was delicious, the bourbon bbq sauce is amazing. We look forward to making another trip so we can...
