Very disappointed in our experience here the other night. I understand that restaurants are struggling - as a whole - thanks to COVID and understaffing, However, I don’t believe our experience is related to that.
First, the good - Their food is great. Zero complaints on the items we were served. Sushi was good, and their entrees were good. Now, in the interest of full disclosure, it did take over an hour for our food to come out - Even though the restaurant was barely half-full. I am NOT complaining about that. We were having great conversation, and we were understanding and patient. The “wait time” is not why I’m giving them 2-stars.
They get two stars because there were issues with quality control. In the group I was with, not everyone received what was ordered. I’’m only going to cite one example: A few orders of calamari were submitted, but never showed up. When asked about them, we were told, “We ran out of calamari”. Then, magically, 10 minutes later, we received an order of calamari. Some items ordered never showed up. This isn’t a staffing issue - This is a quality-control issue. Verifying orders for accuracy, and working to complete them fully is the most fundamental aspect in the food service industry.
Never once was anyone in my group hounding our mostly-absent server for where our food was. We were all well aware of of staffing issues these days. However, when an order is being served, verify it to make sure you have everything. This is standard stuff. If we’ve been patiently waiting for over an hour of food, we would have waited an extra three minutes for staff to check our tickets against the food to be delivered. That was clearly not done here.
Finally, there is further questions regarding honesty when the cocktail menu states “Fresh Juice” being used in a cocktail. When asked for what fruit juices they are prepping, and we are told that they come from a bottle, “Fresh” is not the word I’d use to describe it. They even admitted to us that they fibbed a bit on their menu. To me, that’s basic stuff. If you can’t be honest on your menu, and can’t be honest with “being out of calamari”, what else is going on in that place? This is small potatoes. If they’ll lie about the small stuff, what big things are they lying about?
I can’t recommend these folks. The food is good, but honesty is important. Quality control is something everyone can do - regardless of staffing levels. Perhaps our experience is not typical, but even with everything that had gone “wrong” during our dinner, there were simple ways to address each one. They failed on all of them. Simply admitting that they made a mistake would have made me give them a four-star review (one star removed for the menu dishonesty of using “fresh juices” in their...
Read moreWe all had sushi! And weren't disappointed. It was extremely fresh, perfectly presented and delicious. I did think the portions were a bit small for such premium prices, but still very good. Now...moving on to the service. We had a guy whose name rhymes with Mason. His feigned enthusiasm, mixed with his absence of presence made his attempt to serve us not only uncomfortable, but a chore! He gazed wistfully out the window as he droned on and on about his "expertise" about sushi should we have any questions. After ordering drinks and an appetizer,he said he would bring us water....which he apparently forgot about...after apologizing profusely about the water...he promptly forgot to put the order in for our app. His banal attempts at humor fell flat, and quite frankly made me wonder about his mental state. I wondered how telling paying customers that our water came from a drainage ditch outside could even be REMOTELY appropriate?! After our food had arrived,we wondered about the appetizer that had not arrived. We queried. And he admitted that he forgot to put the order in. After much apology and awkward rhetoric on his part,we stated that we still wanted it. As time passed, and still no appetizer, we again asked our wonder boy where it was,to wit he says.."I thought you said you didn't want it"...nope,all of us affirmed our desire to have the appetizer, even if it was ridiculously late! Finally the app arrived (yes dear readers, we were finished with our meal by now)and it was delicious and would have been WONDERFUL as an appetizer...instead of dessert. He continued to make off the cuff remarks about who was SUPPOSED to be paying...and that we wouldn't forget him because HE WAS THE BEST! No buddy, you won't be forgotten by THIS diner, because you were definitely NOT the best. I think his personality would make him better suited for telemarketing. He did absolutely nothing to enhance...
Read moreI had first tried Sky five or six months ago and I have to say that I was completely impressed. We tried two different appetizers and two different entrees. Everything was amazing. I would have unreservedly given them five stars. We went back tonight and I was thoroughly disappointed in nearly every dish. At first, I marked them down for small things. The beer wasn't amazing and the wasabi wasn't spicy or flavorful. My sadness increased when I was presented a bowl of iceberg lettuce they called a "salad". I shrugged all of that off in anticipation of the main course, Tropical Mango with shrimp. Yum. You can't mess that up. Or can you? My manpanion had this dish the last time we were here and it really popped. Amazing flavors. I thought all bad feelings would wash away once I experienced this heaven on my tongue. No. It was nothing. No flavor. I couldn't believe it. I quit the dish as soon as I met my calorie requirement. My partner was equally disappointed with the pineapple fried rice. No flavor.
The singular, delicious item we consumed tonight was the veggie rolls appetizer. Very yum. Also, I should give a shout out to the chocolate beer imbibed by my other half. Lastly, our service was great. We had an extraordinarily sweet server. Otherwise, had this been my only experience with this restaurant, I could never recommend them. If they changed chefs, they need to change back. They've reached the heights of three stars because the our first...
