I've probably written a dozen reviews on this place over the years. Piggy's is a very special little gem you need to experience for yourself. The owner is present most times to greet you (don't be surprised by a hug) and watch over the place although it's not necessary anymore. The cook and much of the staff have been there for 15+ years and it shows. We're talking about a well oiled machine here. Food and service are amazingly consistent.
First off... Everything about the place screams 'pigs' (not a bad thing). Upon entering you walk through the quaint little gift shop which has a large selection of the obligatory Piggy's of Lake Harmony t-shirts, sweatshirts, towels, etc. But in addition, you will find every pig novelty gift imaginable from mugs to piggy banks to games to stuffed animals, slippers, candles, soaps, and even flying pigs and pig shaped dog treats.
Next, let's talk food. Every table starts with a complimentary basket of warm, delicious, miniature blueberry muffins, right out of the oven. Everything else I've ever had here has been fantastic as well. Super fresh eggs, crisp bacon, sausage links AND patties, perfectly seasoned home fries, giant fluffy pancakes and giant fluffy omelettes. They even have elusive scrapple; the best I've found outside Philly. The giant selection here makes a decision difficult. Today I tried the the sausage gravy over biscuits. It was so good, I almost ordered a second plate of it. But I have to tell you my absolute favorites here are the different types of french toast. My #1 go-to is the cinnamon swirl French toast. And a close second is the crunchy battered French toast. If you're undecided, I would suggest a "Taste of Sweetness" which gives you a piece of each; a great follow up to a giant western omelette. Or maybe get the Sweetness to go. It reheats very well.
It will get a bit crowded so get there early or be prepared to drool all over yourself as the delicious looking plates pass by while you wait for your table. But even with peak time crowds, I've never had longer than a 20 minute wait which goes by quickly while shopping for pig paraphernalia.
Do yourself a solid... Visit Piggy's if you haven't already. You will absolutely not...
Read moreAte here yesterday with friends while staying with them at Westwood Properties. We were seated at a table with a top that wobbled while many others were available. Only 2 other tables were occupied. Waitress meandered over eventually with an attitude. 3 of our party of 4 ordered hot tea which was served room temperature. 2 of us sent it back and it came back luke warm with the cup itself hot obviously put in the microwave. One of our party went to use the bathroom and both the mens and womens room doors were posted with signs that said they were temporarily unavailable for use. The hostess had a sarcastic response when asked about the situation. A CLEAR HEALTH CODE VIOLATION ! We should have left right then. It got worse. The cheesesteak that was ordered was dry and flavorless and the "home fries" were oil soaked and bland. 3 of us got our plates after they sat on the pass thru for 5 minutes while our waitress meandered around the dining room replenishing various items on empty tables like utensils and placemats, etc. And the 4th had to wait another 10 minutes to receive their meal. Seems to be a recurring theme in other reviews. Waitress never asked if we needed refills a and took a long time bringing our check. Seems like the staff just DGAF. There are times when employees of an establishment will mess with customers from another state for sport and to get a reaction. And inconsistent service reviews show a lack of concern for pleasing the customers. Totally opposite of their claims on the back of the menu about the history and mission of purporting to strive for good food and service to the community. Why be in this type of business ? Do yourself a favor and AVOID this place. There are so many other places in the area to patronize. PS their website claims that every meal is served with a complimentary basket of blueberry muffins. Never saw or was offered them. Probably dodged a bullet...
Read moreWent there 3 times on my honeymoon last month. The first time was on Memorial Day, so it was packed full. Alas, me and my new wife were forgotten for a little bit as we were stuffed in the far corner out of sight. I ordered blueberry pancakes and eggs. The meal was very good, and they did notice that they had slipped up by missing us, they offered us our next meal free.
Second time was busy but much less hectic. We were waited on right away, and it wasn't the same exact staff so it wasn't just out of guilt that they were much better this time. I tried to crunchy batter toast - amazing. I contemplating ordering a whole loaf to the take home with me.
The third time I had a western omelet, and boy was it fantastic - with good service once again.
Between the three meals I tried most of their main menu. They're strength is in that they don't try and do everything - they've identified what they do well and stick to it - and they have some original recipes. It's a small place that kind of almost makes you feel like your at home with your mom serving you like back when you were a child.
My two critiques would be that like with any small business, having enough good staff on hand is important, and for normal days they do fine but on busy days they might take a while to get to you - it's worth the wait. Also, they only take cash, which while that didn't bother me as I was using mostly cash the whole trip, it is a tad inconvenient for some people. They do have an atm on site, but of course than you are paying a terminal fee.
If you're staying near Lake Harmony, there's no where better to get breakfast. If you're anywhere in the Pocono area, it's worth at least a trip - try the...
