The meal was buffet and had fried catfish, chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, corn off the cob, pinto beans and a couple of other items, which I can't recall. They also had a dessert bar with cakes, what I took to be homemade bread pudding, and blackberry cobbler. They also had a fairly good size salad bar. I know it's my taste buds that we're affected, but I had sodium issues with the chicken fried steak, gravy, and potatoes. The salad bar was nice, but had no cottage cheese available and the salad dressing I prefer (Bleu Cheese) tasted like cheap imitation My spouse had fish and she said her food was overly salty, as well, and the fish was overly cooked and very"rubbery" and difficult to eat. The pinto beans were under cooked and crunchy and the homemade rolls were dry and not tasty. However, we both agreed that the unsweet tea was very good, not too strong, nor weak. We both liked the bread pudding and I, the berry cobbler. The servers were very caring and ensured our drinks stayed filled...
Read moreMy family and I met in Kilgore on 7-17-19 to eat at McKay's Ranch House. We have eaten at McKay's several times with no incident. However, today as I approached the register to pay, the old man behind the counter, who I believe is the owner, was loudly and aggressively railing against immigrants and those who oppose his mentality. His offensive rhetoric made me and other patrons uncomfortable. He had no regard for others in his establishment and continued to spew his vitriol and misinformation. Needless to say, we will not be back, and I will not recommend this establishment to anyone. While I understand that there are many who share his hateful views, I will not give any more of my hard earned money to an establishment that will allow someone to behave in this manner. I feel for the patrons and employees who are people of color because if he feels comfortable enough to spew this hatred out in the open for all to observe, I can only imagine what goes on...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars I would, this place is disgusting and way over priced. Came here on Easter Sunday thinking it was gonna be home cook southern tasting food only to find dry over cooked chicken, “chicken gravy” that looked that an octopus crapped it out, bland uncooked vegetables (meaning it tasted like they took it out the can heated it for three minutes and put it out), dry bland roast beef (gravy was the best part), watery instant potatoes, and their bread pudding taste like gooey sweet dough. Not to mention when I asked what their “chicken gravy” was they looked at me like I was stupid. She told me it’s for their dry dressing which figures. In total for my husband, me, and our 5 year with drinks it was $40.88 total and even at price I was still so disappointed. Will not recommend to anyone....
