Tacos Penjamo — Restaurant in Killeen

THIS IS WORTH THE READ!!!! I’ve been to a lot of great places whether it has been food related or not, I’ve always wanted to write reviews but I never actually have. So this will be my first review which shows that something stuck out to me. I’m originally from California but I’m stationed here in fort hood. Mexican food is my absolute favorite but we all know texas just has Tex mex. Since my arrival in 2016 I have yet to find a Mexican restaurant that can even come close to compare to So-Cal Mexican food. I’ve been on the hunt for real authentic Mexican food and have always been let down, well today I decided to try yet again a search for a place that does 1$ street tacos for taco Tuesday. I came across this establishment and saw the pictures and reviews and figured why not? So I go there and I order 7 carne Asada tacos with everything along with a large horchata. Let me tell you, when I got my food and saw how it was put together I was surprised and I asked myself can this be it? Is my long journey for Cali-like Mexican food over!!? I took the first bite and I was completely mesmerized, I finally found a place like the ones back home!!!!! These tacos were absolutely killer!!!! If I could give this 100 stars I would, I want to thank everybody involved in that restaurant for satisfying my needs with REAL Mexican food!!!!! The street tacos had 2 small shells like they should and they didn’t short it at all!!! These tacos were stuffed!! Needless to say this place is 110% hands down THE BEST Mexican restaurant across Texas, I highly encourage y’all to try it out, guarantee you will not be disappointed!!!! Very friendly and welcoming staff, and what puts the cherry on the top is they are firearm friendly, as long as you are legally licensed to carry, you are welcome to do so inside their restaurant!!!!!!!! YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME AND I CANT THANK YOU...

I used to enjoy this place, the owner is a really good person. He started off with a taco truck and than opened the Restaurant! Great food for the most part, however, I called into placed a order today and the women who work there were nasty with me because I asked them why did they place a entire steak inside my box! I asked for Carne Asada and not an entire steak. She went on and on about how you could see the picture on the menu (remind you that I ordered over the phone) anywhere you go including Mexico and the United States, you would get a beef Skirt steak but not this. I asked for four flour tortillas and paid for 4 but only received 3. She went on and on like I was attempting to scam them and no, I will not be delivering back there after you messed up my order, it’s not worth the time nor gas! How about a sorry, if you knew it was a entire steak and not the skirt steak you should have informed the customer of this before placing the order. She told me that this is Texas Mex, and not real Mexican food! Another thing is the beef skirt steak, chicken and other meats are usually cut and divided into tacos individually by the person that ordered the plate. She said if I wanted Tacos why didn’t I order Tacos, this place should be completely a shamed of its self! I will never order another item from...

Their birria tacos are everything!! Alright so my oldest got it in his head that he wanted to try birria tacos on New Year’s Day. All the food trucks were closed, so I decided to go with the tried and true Penjamo. I’m honestly so happy we did. Full disclosure, my oldest is EXTREMELY picky so I was on fence about wasting my money if he didn’t like it..but he enjoyed the birria tacos so much, he was dunking them into the consumé & even using the limes & cilantro (he never dresses up his tacos!). I have had tacos penjamo before, years ago. And this honestly shows me why they’re still around. The quality is amazing, service is very friendly. Their restaurant is always superior clean when I’ve visited. To add the cherry on top, their birria tacos are also the most affordable in the area. I normally go by quality over price point, so that’s definitely a win/win situation either way. We’re definitely going to be regulars from here on out. He’s already asking if he can work here when he’s 16 (he’s 7😂). Clearly these birria tacos changed his life. I hope if you’re reading this, you let them change...
