Please note that I did not send my food back, nor did I complain to the waitress or manager. This is just my honest opinion and critique of the restaurant, service and food. The entire bill was paid and included a 20% tip.
Entrance, greeting and seating were fine. Restaurant/tables and bathrooms appeared clean. Less than 5 min for server to come to our table. Menu was easily navigated and understood.
I ordered fresh guacamole and also queso to start. It was brought out quickly with salsa and chips. The queso was hot and tasty and the fresh guacamole looked delicious and very freshly made. The guacamole was good but lacked salt and any seasoning or acidity so we asked for lemon and added salt and pepper and that worked out fine. Chips were freshly made and not greasy and the salsa was tasty.
We ordered for two adults and one child:
Combo for me - 1 beef burrito, 1 beef enchilada, and a chile relleno. The burrito and enchilada were tortillas (1 flour and 1 corn) filled with dry unseasoned crumbled ground beef with nothing to hold it together. Very very dry but topped with red (Chile?) sauce that was poorly seasoned as well and a light coating/sprinkle of cheese/Queso and also lukewarm to cool, not hot at all. Refried beans were average and the rice was dry and under cooked. The “Chile Relleno” was not a Chile Relleno at all, but a half bell pepper boiled (very watery)and filled with the same ground beef and just a sprinkle of cheese but had been heated under a broiler and was in fact very hot. Extremely disappointed with my meal and only had 5-6 bites before giving up.
Burrito platter meal for my 20 yr old son - 1 larger beef burrito same as my smaller one with only dry unseasoned crumbly ground beef inside and covered with the same sauce and sprinkling of Queso, a side of guacamole and some shredded lettuce and chopped tomato as garnish or topping. Also lukewarm and very disappointing. He ate about half before giving up.
Kids burrito and taco for my 11 yr old nephew - he doesn’t like sauce so I had asked for just the beef, cheese, and sour cream on his. It came out without the sauce as requested, but again dry crumbly ground beef almost no cheese and again lukewarm at best. He ate it because I poured the rest of the appetizer Queso on it. Again, very disappointing.
The server/waitress was ok. Not that attentive and we waited for refills on drinks and a to-go box for my son, but overall not bad.
The restaurant has at least 25 tables/booths and there were a total of 9 tables seated and served while we were there. Not a great crowd for a Saturday night.
Oh, I also ordered the “Texas Margarita” that was on special and it was just “Ok”, not remarkable and average, maybe.
3 out of 10 at best. Will not return unless something improves and I hear rave reviews going forward.
As to the other reviews which seem mostly positive and above average? It begs me to ask if I had a bad experience on just that night or have people never eaten authentic Mexican cuisine and they have nothing to compare it to?
NOTE: Mexican and Central American foods are far from bland or dry. Please widen your horizons and treat your tastebuds to various and a wide range of world cuisines. You will be...
Read moreThere were so many things wrong with this restaurant. I don’t know if it was just because it was Cinco de Mayo or what. The first sign was the the man at the front moping around like he was getting more and more upset with every customer. Whining around the whole restaurant. My party size was 4 people and we had been sitting for a good minute. Then another group of 4 came in and he tried to give them a table until we said something about us already sitting there. Number 2, when we sat down it took nearly 30 minutes for a waiter to come to our table. The waiters seem to not read the tickets because we had to repeat what we asked for multiple times. The wait time for the food had to be an hour. The third problem, we got our food before our silverware. We are sitting for 20 minutes until my sister decides to get the silverware herself and it took not even a minute. So what takes them so long? The only good thing about the restaurant was the food. It was seasoned really well and had a lot of flavor. Also, the party in the table beside us left because they had been there longer than us and they never received their food. Maybe it was the holiday rush, the drunk customers at other tables, or the fact that most of their waiters did not speak English, but in the end it was pretty...
Read moreI found this place looking at the last minute for a place to have lunch with a friend. Even with GPS, the entrance was not easy to find. It's tucked on a back service road behind the hotels on the main road. It's obviously an older building and, at first, we thought the restaurant was closed down (out-of- business.) When we drove around to the front of the building we saw a few cars. The inside is fine though. We should have requested other seating because our group was seated in a booth which did not have room for all our meal dishes on the table (which we had to keep shuffling around) or for us to move our arms comfortably when our food came out. Our servers were not very friendly, one of the orders had to go back, which the server was visibly mad about, the food took a long time to come out, even though the restaurant was pretty empty at the time. My meal did not have very much flavor and the meat was tough (carne asada tacos.) The other meals seemed to be good, and according to my friends, tasted good. (That's why 3 stars and not less.) I ordered water to drink. It was obviously tap water and it was not good. Overall, this was not a good experience. I probably will not go back and I would not recommend this place...
