LA FUENTE is hands down the absolute BEST PLACE for Mexican food and margaritas (esp. blood orange & blackberry)! We visit La Fuente's a couple times a week on average, because we just can not get enough of the great food, the scrumptious margaritas, and the delicious cheesecake and fried ice cream desserts. But most of all, the owner and all the wait staff at La Fuente are exceptional in their duties and they always makes us feel welcome when we walk in the door. We have never been left waiting for anything, whether it was to be seated, waiting for our margaritas, or our food. Top notch service every time. Every. Time. 👍 And of course Rosa is the sweetest waitress, and Jesus is so friendly and great to talk with, but also very professional and a great waiter! Do we recommend La Fuente? Absolutely!!!!! Will we be back again? You can bet on it!!!!! See y'all soon! 😊

The waiter was very nice. I didn't have the heart to tell him about my food. It came out so quickly that it had to have been microwaved. It looked like it, too. The bean filling in my enchilada was thin. It poured out when I jabbed the enchilada with my fork. My chile relleno was encased in a very thick coating. I had never seen anything like that before. The cheese inside was very runny and the chile itself was stringy like it had been overcooked. I believe that my cheese quesadilla was cooked fresh. The tortilla did look like it had been grilled just before serving. I was very disappointed with my visit. This restaurant has a 4.5 average rating, so I guess I expected something a little bit better than a microwaved meal.

Probably my favorite place to eat in Kirksville as it's cheap, quick, and doesn't charge you for chips. *Cough* Not the nicest of establishments, but what are you really looking for in Kirksville? Friendly staff and nice environment makes it my favorite Mexican place here. For a quick bite I recommend the Speedy Gonzales and an extra taco for lunch.

TLDR: Try the chili relleno with a glass of horchata. If you like picante salsa, ask for it. Extensive menu. Friendly staff/owners.

MENU: Large selection. More like the Mexican restaurants you find in the southwest, and less like the Midwestern-style places that want to drown everything in waxy cheese sauce.

FOOD QUALITY: Standard for the area; neither exceptional or worse than average.

MENU FAVORITES: As far as I know, La Fuente is the only place in town you can get a chili relleno (stuffed poblano pepper battered and fried), which is one of my favorites. The chili colorado (what Americans think of as chili, without beans) is good as well.

MENU FAILS: I recommend steering away from anything that probably doesn't get ordered very often, or isn't likely to be made fresh. One of the downsides of having such an extensive menu is that having EVERYTHING on hand at all times is a challenge, and the quality can suffer as a result. In my case I ordered lengua one time (braised beef tongue) and was kind of ill the next day.

FRONT OF HOUSE SERVICE: Super friendly. One time the guy working the cash register gave me a refill of horchata on the house, even though the menu says no refills.

KITCHEN SERVICE: No complaints.

COMPETITION: The only other Mexican restaurant I go to with any regularity is La Pa. IMO, the tacos are better at La Pa, and La Fuente is better for anything that isn't tacos.

ATMOSPHERE: No matter where you sit, there will be lots of windows around, which I think is nice....

I've always enjoyed the food at La Fuente. There's many options that will satisfying your Mex craving. I was really impressed with the size of the King Burrito. The prices are pretty reasonable, too. My biggest complaint would be the arrangement of the restaurant. The two entrances and cashier stand get confusing and cause a congestion. A lot of people will stand and wait for tables while the hostess is trying to accept payments. The service is good, but I would give 5 stars if it wasn't for the awkward entrances and exits every time. I would like to see them get rid of the cashier's stand and just have waiters or waitresses accept payment to get rid of that whole process. They could then add some seating for those waiting on a table. It would make the place flow...
