Let me begin by saying we ate 90% of our food. However, it you look at us you would understand that isn't high praise because we're fat and obviously eat way too much. The service was great though!
The rainbow roll we got for an appetizer was delicious, but after that everything kinda went downhill.
For drinks we had Florida water (definitely unfiltered), and Thai milk tea with boba had lots of boba but was barely sweetened. We still drank it all because we love Thai tea but if you like sweet milk tea, this isn't for you. And then we added a Coke which also seemed to be watered down.
The skirted gyoza appetizer we had next looked fantastic! But the skirt was too thick and chewy (not delicate and crispy) and the pork filling tasted a little bit freezer burned. With the dipping sauce though they were all edible, we finished them all.
For my entree I had the yaki udon with shrimp. The udon noodles and bok choy were cooked perfectly, I ate all those. The sauce was surprisingly sweet (not at all what I expected in yaki udon, sweeter than our Thai tea actually). I did not finish all the vegetables underneath the noodles because they were steeped on the sickly sweet sauce and not good and the shrimp were cooked way, way too long. I ate all of the shrimp though, I don't mind chewy shrimp but if you do mind - don't get it with shrimp.
My husband had katsu curry. The server warned us it would take some time to cook which we were ok with. When it was brought out it was obvious why, the katsu was way way way overcooked, but somehow not burned. It was crispy and golden on the outside but on the inside the pork was dry and chewy and flavorless. The curry gravy (I'm guessing Vermonter boxed curry roux) was good though and if you soaked the katsu in the curry gravy it all came together. The rice served with this dish was terrible, my husband ate 3 bites of it and decided no more. I tried it and it was chewy and extremely dry.
Interestingly, the people next to us had bulgogi and rice and had the same complaint about the rice. They also said the beef was gross but then told the server "everything's great!" So.... Who knows ...
To summarize, service was great, food was on average meh, would go back for the rainbow roll but probably won't go back to try...
Read moreFrom the moment I walked into Mayaki Sushi & Izakaya, I was struck by how thoughtfully the space blends modern design with traditional Japanese touches. The warm lighting, natural-wood accents, and minimalist décor create an inviting atmosphere that suggests this is a place where care is taken, not only in the ambiance but in the food itself.
I opted for the restaurant’s lunch special, which offers two rolls plus a side choice of soup or ginger salad. I selected an avocado roll, a sweet potato tempura roll, and the ginger salad as my side. The avocado roll was smooth, creamy, and delicate, allowing the natural richness of the avocado to shine. The seasoned rice and seaweed wrap complemented it perfectly without overpowering the flavor. The sweet potato tempura roll offered a delightful contrast, crispy on the outside, tender and sweet on the inside, making each bite interesting and satisfying. The ginger salad was more than a simple accompaniment; the bright, tangy ginger dressing provided a refreshing balance to the richness of the rolls.
Each roll was plated with care, and the portion sizes were ideal for lunch, not overly large, yet generous enough to leave me fully satisfied. The presentation reflected attention to detail and enhanced the overall dining experience.
Service at Mayaki Sushi & Izakaya was polished and attentive. The staff greeted me warmly, took my order efficiently, and maintained a comfortable pace throughout the meal. The atmosphere was lively yet calm, making it perfect for a relaxed lunch, a casual meeting, or simply a break in the day.
Overall, Mayaki Sushi & Izakaya delivers far more than “just another sushi lunch.” The combination of fresh ingredients, thoughtful preparation, and a comfortable dining environment creates a genuinely enjoyable experience. I look forward to returning to explore more of their menu, from other roll combinations to sashimi and izakaya-style small plates. This restaurant has earned a spot on my list for quality lunch...

Discovered this place had finally opened while on a trip to get gas and immediately needed to check it out. Worth it? Totally!
Let's talk options: this place has them.. lots of them (and at this time it's only soft opening!). Options range from small plates featuring karaage, baos (steamed buns), okonomiyaki, and takoyaki (allegedly... they were sold out tonight, but I can forgive that) to ramen, curry and skewers. At this point you may be wondering if anything is worthwhile and I assure you that EVERYthing is worthwhile; seriously. everything.
Add in the cozy atmosphere and friendly staff and I am happy to say I have found a place that I plan to visit regularly going forward.
11/10 would get sidetracked while out for gas again.
Update: sushi is a thing now and it is GREAT! Would recommend the Ika Crunch roll. Also, yes, the yakisoba IS currently on the kids menu, but yakisoba is wonderful and their yakisoba is double wonderful, so once again: Fight me! Seriously though, the chashu pork yakisoba with a side of Kewpie mayo just blew away the bad feeling of having to sit 2 hours in traffic to get here. 11/10...
