UPDATE: 6 June 2025 - We were at the bar next door for trivia night and successfully got a small take-out order. (If they're busy they won't always do it.) Fries we almost cold, LOL.
If you want the best burger on the Beach it's Jack Brown's all-day-every-day. Mile Post 8.5 on the Beach Road.
UPDATE: 13 September 2017 - Gave this place another couple of chances in spite of the original 2-star review. Food quality has gone downhill each time, which was the one thing bringing us back. This last week we were served inedible fries. Came out completely cold and were the driest / most overly crisp fries I've ever seen served. Think potato chip dry. Clearly there was a mix-up somewhere, which is fine. Problem is they had already messed up our order before this, so we felt bad complaining (nicely, again) so we didn't. Their ordering process and serving outside seating is confusing and awkward. They "seated" us at a table outside, but then we were required to go inside, wait in line again, and order. The food was delivered outside to us, but then were told to go back inside if we needed anything. Do we tip?? Not sure if we did (my FIL paid for our whole party). I don't think I would have, because at that point the "servers" are just dropping food off similar to how other fast food establishments operate. IF we ever go again, which is a BIG if, we will simply get take out. That will remove all ambiguity whether or not we require service. One thing I noticed this time was that you're only limited to one free refill on soda. Really?! Apparently we time-warped back to the 1950s. It's not like they serve huge sodas or something, that would be a different story.
It's such a shame this place is so dysfunctional, it has a great location and they added a huge upper level deck this summer. Ironically you're not allow to take any food up there, ha! Figures. I'm not even sure why I'm leaving this as 2-stars, guess I just feel bad about down-rating a place with so much potential. The servers were mostly friendly, so that counts for something. We're locals. Doubt we'll ever come back. We can get more consistent food and service at Five Guys for the same price or cheaper.
2 April 2017 - Good burgers. Have been here several times, not sure if we'll come back any more. Mixed bag on service. They have shirts that say something like, "Locals welcome, tourists tolerated." What a terrible attitude. I assume they're trying to be sarcastic/funny, which is fine if it wasn't true. Guess they think we're tourists, LOL. Five Guys is just as good. Art's has a great location across from the...
Read moreUpdate to one year later. Just being brutally honest here. Food is STILL delicious however the service has gone down. The employees seem to be extremely unhappy. Which makes me and my family sad since it truly is a fave of ours in Kitty Hawk. They seem to not be able to handle the amount of business coming their way. They need to be a little more kind to people when turning them away. It’s all about how you approach someone. Coming off rude or cold due to your establishment being extremely busy can ultimately ruin your biz. Cutting off breakfast because you simply cannot handle the amount of people is acceptable, however not taking a lunch order for your customer to pick up later is ridiculous. I was turned away and had to come back to place a lunch order which was only 35 mins away. I asked if I could just place the order and come back to pick up at that time (I didn’t mind the wait) but they told me no, that I had to wait to place the order at a particular time (they make up these rules as they go). This is poor business practice and it’s only a matter of time for you to get more reviews like this and for word to spread that you are simply turning your paying regular customers away. I ended up going back to place my order simply because it was pure convenience to me and that was the only reason. One last addition… adding a picture of my “to go” soda. Both of our sodas were not filled to the top on purpose? For the cost of drinks nowadays, I want it to the TOP!!!
Fantastic food specifically the breakfast!!! Just go you will NOT be disappointed!!! We love Kitty Hawk and hope to be...
Read more4/29/23 - I'm officially done with this place; I have had some experiences before that weren't great, but I would still go back, and it seemed to have gotten better but tonight was the night that I will never go back and quite honestly the number of travelers that come though my place of business I will steer as many people away from here as humanly possible. It amazes me that my wife and I stood outside the front door area for over an hour with our 1-year-old son and as they brought food out to numerous people out on the patio to include offering others drinks, they never thought to ask us or offer anything to hold us over or even remotely consider asking us if our son might possibly want something that might hold him over. We we're told 15-20 mins while given a pager that turned into 30-40 mins to eventually waiting over an hour while we noticed a number of people coming well after us being seated promptly. I eventually went inside and asked why we had to wait so much longer than expected and come to find out after pulling out the pager the response was " Oh, we have been missing a pager that's where it went. We had no clue" So they never even took our name and or programmed the pager to indicate when we could even be seated. If it was just me no big deal, I'll go somewhere else that's fine. But to make my wife and my one-year-old son wait out in the cold because they couldn't do their job. Um no thank you. And again, As I am a local myself which manages a business that sees a lot of visitors this certainly won't be the top 50 places I'll recommend in the area from here to...
