Big Buck's Homemade Ice Cream — Restaurant in Kitty Hawk

The ice cream is pretty good, but i wasn’t a fan of the specials. There is no description to tell you what each one is. I ordered a banana split assuming it would be pretty standard, but asked if i might have two specific flavors of ice cream. When it came, i got a split with my flavors of choice and a bonus strawberry sorbet...a flavor i didn’t want, hadn’t asked for, and which didn’t remotely fit with the rest of the split. I pointed this out and was told “oh, but its standard...”. No offer to exchange that flavor was extended. Wanting an offer to fix the selection rather than forcefully ask myself may be my southern passive aggressive soul coming out, but certainly it seems that the attendant would have mentioned at the beginning that the split came with three scoops and not two in case i wanted to pick a third of my own.

Oh well, i sat down determined to enjoy the rest of my split when i found the surprise toppings of runny, melted whipped cream and hard pineapple. As if pairing a sorbet with ice cream wasn’t bad enough, now i had to deal with sad whipped cream and crunchy fruit? Where was my hot fudge, peanuts, and fully fluffed whipped cream? Dylan in the man! Needed some ice cream on this hot afternoon so we went to Big Buck’s. There was a couple in front of us ordering chocolates and they were being pretty particular about what they wanted, how they wanted it packaged etc. we waited a while before they were done with their order. Our time came to order and within our group of four we got two scoops of salted caramel pretzel crunch, one scoop of chocolate and one scoop of peanut butter cookie. Dylan was quick with our order and the scoops were huge! We sat outside at the nearby gazebo to eat our ice cream. It all tasted great. After our order there were another ten or so people in line looking to order ice cream as well. Dylan handled the rush of patrons like a champ. HE WAS THE ONLY STAFF MEMBER WORKING. With a smile on his face, he took care of everyone and was patient with those that were being difficult with their orders. We got out of the car to a middle aged woman absolutely losing her mind yelling "we have to get out of here". Passing by, I thought it had to be LSD,I shrugged it off. Walking out, 5.99 single scoop cake cone in hand, I sit down on the bench out front. Within seconds, I see movement in the shadows. Four to five bugs scurry across the wooden planks of the porch and dive into a crevice along the front corner post. After witnessing the stampede, we finish our ice cream standing on the sidewalk.
