Right on the main road, this was one of the very few Indian restaurants in OBX. The restaurant was empty and we were the only customers at lunch time.
👍🏻We ordered a Mango Lassi soon after we got the table. The lassi was fine and super refreshing!!
👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻As for food, we ordered 1 veg biriyani and 3 Chicken biriyani! Big MISTAKE !! Should have tried one first before replicating the item. They asked us the spice level and we said spicy. Little did we know that we were in for an explosive stomach treatment.
⚠️This is probably to the restaurant chef, please revisit your ingredients and instructions for preparation of a biriyani. That’s not a biriyani what you served us. That was a disaster. One basic YouTube video will help you out immensely. Please mention what part of India did you have a biriyani like that, that you are serving people here in the same name?
We Indians eat spice. But please know that there is no biriyani prepared in any of the Indian states that add chilli flakes to the masala!! It’s not a FRIED RICE!!!! And when we say spicy, we mean the masala you COOK in the kitchen, the one you marinate the Chicken with to be spicy, that masala gets cooked in a sufficient quantity of oil first, and then goes the rice in it. Never does an Indian food add chilli flakes or red chilli powder on top of the already cooked and prepared biriyani rice or chicken!! Please take a note of that!
We were taken aback by the reviews, 4.5!! Not worth it! Also, since one basic authentic stuff like biriyani was a disaster here, I wonder how the rest of the menu tastes.
Although it was very spacious from inside and on very accessible location and very friendly staff, its a total disappointment in the name of Indian food! I would definitely go for a local restaurant in OBX and not look for an...
Read moreWe are locals and our 1st time to try. We took our out of town guest , we all love Indian cuisine. But was so bummed from the moment we stepped in. Its not really a restaurant, its more of a carryout . The decor and set up was so unappealing to the eye, my friend even said it gave her a bad taste and we haven’t even tried the food.
We walked in , was greeted and told to grab our menus. We was told when ready to go up to register to order. All drinks are in cans or bottle including water, no cups of ice. The menu on the entrees say * limit 2 naans per entree* , so we all assumed naan came with order but no, naan is extra.
When food came out it was all served in to go containers, including paper plates and plastic silverware. Now for the tasting, was just OK , the Somosas were extremely salty, there was some odd seasoning on the pastry. The Chicken Tikka Masala was very sweet and very tomato…lack of seasonings. My husband liked the Saag. But our friends said the butter chicken was also missing the rich flavors as one would expect in Indian food. The amount of food was very poor but they will for sure fill you up with the free rice.
Pricing…we paid $25.00 per person , this included one drink and one naan each, tip not included . And because it was pretty much carry out we wanted to tip a carry out tip but it didnt give us that option. Minimum tipping if paying by card is 15% , so suggest to bring cash for tipping.
Will we probably not return, not worth the price for carry out type food and the amount of food. Wish I had a...
Read moreI started traveling to India in 1988. Subsequent trips took me to Nepal as early as 1990. We lived in a university town in Virginia that had a number of foreign students and we worked with a non-profit that had many overseas visitors coming through. Needless to say, we are lovers of Asian cuisine. And my wife and I have had the privilege of having GREAT Indian food prepared for us in our home. So, whenever we travel, we search out local Asian restaurants. We generally choose Indian restaurants. Even though we were at the beach again this past May, we didn’t eat seafood every day. And we were both elated to walk into the Himalaya Indian Cuisine at Kitty Hawk. The first smell had my wife and I looking at each other. Let me just say, this guy can cook! He prepares his own bread, uses fresh herbs daily, and makes absolutely the best Pakora my wife and I have ever had. We called a friend two days later and went again! Yes, we made it to fresh fish and shrimp places, after all, it was the beach. But without a doubt the highlight for us was Himalaya Indian Cuisine. If you like Indian or Nepali food, and don’t stop at this restaurant, you’ve missed a treat. It will be our first stop when we return to the beach. Amazing, incredible, outstanding, authentic,...
