I am not one to leave negative reviews, but myself and the rest of my party had what we felt was a very careless experience here. Let me start by saying the chai I had was delicious. Beyond that, I have to say this experience left everything else to be desired. I completely understand the staff is only operating based on the larger restaurant culture and rules, so I want to be clear that I don’t hold any individual responsible for my experience. As a vegan living in La Crosse WI, I deeply understand that I’m going to have to make adjustments to most everything I order when I go out to eat. What I don’t understand is why I was told a max of 2 adjustments were allowed. I've literally never been told this. In the service industry I personally find it an interesting choice to capsize special requests. I noticed the menu also kindly requested no substitutions. Okay…but then at least have 1 option that exists as is for a vegan. After thoroughly examining the menu, it looked to me as if everything needed at least one modification to make it dairy free. In this way, myself and my party of 2 others who don’t eat animal products left feeling like our requests to create something we would enjoy were taken to be a nuisance, which right off the bat makes it near impossible to have a positive experience. If there's truly nothing immediately obvious that I can order from the menu, at the very least I’d like to feel that my own attempts to amend existing items be both allowed and encouraged. Again, I’m not one to leave a negative review, but the whole experience was extremely uncomfortable and disappointing. To feel like an inconvenience, be served a sloppy meal, and leave with a $59 bill I feel warrants some degree of frustration. I really want to like it here because I feel there's real potential to be vegan friendly in a city that largely isn't... but as long as the options stay so limited and the attitude toward modifications remain as they are, I definitely cannot consider Java Vino a viable option for anything...
Read morehi, i have been here two times. i refer to this location as javavino, that which my mother fondly calls java. my mom loves this place. she gets the same thing every time. she uses this spot as a meeting point with one of her friends. we reside in sparta, but are natives to this community, however, just since april, at the earliest, guests of this locale. my mom gets a large hot chai latte with coconut milk, extra cinnamon, and not too hot. she does comment that it may be so good due to how sweet it is. i have encouraged her to opt for a less sweet option, or exploring sweetening via honey. having been a barista before, it may be that the chai concentrate itself is co-dependent with the sweetness that it cannot be modified, but that's just a guess. i have tried here the cold brew and the nitro. both of which are not good. i feel i can say that because i really love coffee, and i drink a lot of it. the kwik trip nitro is better than that which is here. this cold brew is much better than kwik trip's. starbucks is better on both fronts than both locations mentioned. my homemade cold brew at home from aldi's ground coffee is something i would elect to drink over these two javavino products. i would be open to trying still a hot black brewed coffee (i drink my coffees black, for context) as well as an espresso based drink, like an americano, hot or iced. i appreciate the atmosphere just enough. it is nice that there's a drive thru offered (you drive to the window to order), and i like to sit outside when weather allows. indoors is okay. my mom enjoys to collect the stickers you use to keep bevs warm. the server yesterday about 1230 in the drive thru was really kind, a young brunette adult...
Read moreLarge restaurant/bar with plenty of seating for a Saturday breakfast. The food was very good, the coffee just okay.
My wife and I started off by ordering a cup of the dark roast coffee ($3 or so), which the waitress said would be the brew of the day. Sadly, what she meant was that the brew of the day, which she told us was called Toasted Coconut after we received it and mentioned it tasted like French Vanilla and did not taste like a dark roast, was the "darker" roast of the two coffees they had. I stomached the brew of the day while my wife asked for a shot of espresso to add. Unfortunately, the shot didn't come out before my wife finished her coffee, but at least it tasted like a dark roast when it did. Only other issue with the coffee/service was that the waitress did not ask if we wanted more coffee until we were already finished with our meal.
The food (about $10 per item), in the meantime, came out relatively quick. I ordered the veggie omelette (onions, mushrooms, peppers) with sourdough toast and a side of hashbrowns and my wife ordered the florentine sandwich (looked like a spinach omelette on toast with some cheese. My food was steaming hot when it arrived, and although it needed some of the salt and pepper on the table, it was very good, especially when I threw it on the toast. My wife liked her sandwich, but said it was just warm and not hot. She also loved my hashbrowns.
Overall, a...
