We stopped in for lunch on our way back home. We selected this reataurant because it has a higher star rating than many other restaurants in La Grange. The lunch specials were on the more expensive side (averaging about $16.00), and we spent over $40 for lunch. We both ordered the spinach chicken. While we waited for our entree, we snacked on the chips and salsa. The chips were warm but seemed to be purchased from a vendor. The red salsa was very bland. It was almost like dressed up tomato sauce. No bits of peppers, or cilantro, or onions, etc. The little cup of queso seemed to be melted Velveeta. It was bland. Our entrees arrived (Soinach Chicken) on a large cast iron platter. It was hot and the onions and mushrooms were sizzling and smelled great. Our chicken breasts were covered with onions as well and on top of everything was melted cheese. There had to easily be a cup of sliced onions on each platter. As it turns out, the onions were mostly still raw. The cheese sauce was the melted Velveeta, and the chicken breasts appeared to have been pre-boiled or steamed prior to them being grilled as the meat was stringy, chewy and a bit tough. They seemed overcooked. The borracho beans were good. They too could have stood some additional seasoning or spices. The rice was OK. We will have to see what other options are available before we eat here again. Overall we would rank this restaurant as VERY average. There's nothing here to differentiate it from...
Read moreAs seems to be my experience with many Mexican restaurants, the first time tends to be my worst experience, but subsequent ones are excellent.
The good: their beans are some of the best I've had. Super flavorful and just great. Beef Fajita was excellent: perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of flavor. A++. Child's burger had a nice charbroil flavor. The restaurant was clean and seems a lot 'brighter' then the Guadalajara was. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Margaritas are very good and tortillas don't seem authentic, but are good.
The bad: prices are around average to higher for other similar restaurants in the area. They have made some changes on their credit card policy and I think they stopped the surcharge for credit cards. Good move here.
Summary: My first visit to Alejandra's was rather underwhelming. I was unimpressed and i felt undervalued by their credit card policy. Subsequently, i've been dozens of times and it's now my favorite mexican restaurant in LG. Super friendly and attentive staff, quality food, and always and...
Read moreWe came to La Grange to enjoy small town casual ambience and attempt to escape the shopping crowds. Found Alejandras Mexican Grill. The Botana shareable appetizer is good. It features 2 quite spicy jalepeno fried shrimps, chalupas cut in half, beef fajita and cheese chalupa cut in half, cheesy chicken burrito cut in half, guac. Perfect shareable dish for 2. Chipotle beef enchilada is really good. Plato Loco was good with a fajita taco, 2 enchiladas and a well stuffed tamale. Food comes out quickly and blazin' hot so let it cool a bit before taking a bite! Their menu is really substantial. Great TexMex options that you will recognize at other places. But they do have some unique twists like pineapple fajitas and roasted jalepeno guac for example. Now for a small side note: the Salsa is ok. We would suggest perhaps going with a homemade version. The salsa is the first thing at the table so it can set the tone.... service is standard. Place is casual and clean. Overall 4 ... Very solid...
