I've been driving by this place off and on over the last 20-plus years, and for some reason or another, I never stopped here until yesterday. My experience was pretty much as I expected, and judging by the number of people standing in line for this place to open meant to me, the food must be very good, the restaurant is very popular and has a loyal following . Stepping inside this cafeteria style setting gave me an old-school country feel that I have experienced in other small towns throughout the state. It amazes me that these places still exist since some of the other places I've been to in other towns are being closed & replaced by more modern restaurants offering more things on their menu and cater to a new generation of customers. These establishments exist due to an older generation of loyal followers and a few younger generations of customers eager to explore a new dining experience. Today, I purchased the fish and shrimp with the green beans and cabbage. I also ordered three extra sides. I added mac and cheese as well as a side of stewed okra with sausage and a side of sweet potatoes. I myself, along with the rest of the customers today, just came to pick up food and did not sit in the small dining area of the restaurant to eat. My food was served fresh and warm, so I didn't mind if my food got cold since my plan was to eat it when I got home, which was an hour away. I hope this helps anyone reading my reviews so ya'll can enjoy your dining experience without the elements of surprise. To be fair, I'm only giving a 4-star review to this location due to the fact I have not had the opportunity to try other things...

The shrimp are delicious at Simps! The ox tails are too!!! My Daddy, Pastor Laban Kimble, taught me that God says that it's good to eat meat and seafood!! 1 Timothy 4:1-8. My Daddy also taught me that I would go to Hell for Eternity if I didn't repent of my sins and ask God to save me. My Daddy is very wise!! He drove me to Church when I was a boy. I confessed that I believe Jesus is God's Son and He died and rose from the dead. 1 John 4:15. Romans 10:9-13!!! My Daddy says that all people are sinners and need saving. God says so. Romans 3:23. We all die too. Romans 6:23. If you haven't asked God to save you from sin and Hell do it now. Say God I believe I am sinner. I believe your Son Jesus died on the cross for every sin I have and will commit. I believe you rose Jesus from the dead. Thank you for...

The food is great, if u don't mind waiting forever to get ur food, the place is kinda small not the cleanest or dirtiest place I've eaten. The staff is rude, very poor people skills, I asked for a menu and she said they didn't have any. So u walk in and you wait for several minutes to take ur order, no menu on the wall or paper menus, so u don't know how much ur paying for food until they ring u up. I noticed the worker wasn't wearing any gloves, she would handle money and sponges and cleaning rags and FOOD with her hands and never washed them. I went to use the restroom but the doorknob was broken and the door was stuck, you couldn't open the door and you could see inside. seams like a nice place, but they have so much room for improvement, I doubt if I...

I have always heard my husband talk about Simp's & how good it is. He finally took me there for lunch today and I am now officially hooked! Their oxtails are cooked perfectly. The greens, blackeyed peas, stewed okra, broccoli cheese casserole, cornbread stuffing & meatloaf was the best I've ever had. And the portion sizes? You'll have plenty of leftovers to take home because they are VERY generous. My advice is to get their early if you're going for lunch. I learned just how popular Simp's was when we got there 20 min before opening and the parking lot was already filling up. I normally eat at a place in Beaumont TX called Richard's for my oxtails & southern sides. Simp's took the gold medal. I'll be visiting this place more often!

It was difficult to give them only one star. They have long been a fixture in the neighborhood. But I have to be completely honest. I despise cold food, and all but one side dish, as well as two of the four main courses, were cold. The flavors were there, but who wants cold food at these prices? The bathrooms were a little alarming, as there were no soap or paper towels. Best wishes to this stalwart; I hope you succeed by the end of time.
