Boba Ya 붕어빵 — Restaurant in La Mirada

I'll start with the good. The atmosphere is fairly nice, and furniture is unique. The tables are occasionally sticky, but it is understandable because with the material it is not easy to tell if it is dirty. The staff is respectful, just a tad slow. And the music selection is rather good. Now, the bad. I've gotten boba tea from this location about 10 times now, ordering the same thing every time (Thai milk tea) and not a single order as tasted the same as the others. Their consistency of product is terrible, and the only reason I continued to visit was because it was the most convenient Boba place on my way home from work. The last two times I went were the last straw. The first of the two, I brought my 6 year old brother and I ordered my usual thai milk tea; with boba, no ice. He got a large strawberry milk tea, also with boba. They both tasted like soap. Figuring it was a simple accident, I went again today on my way home from work, and the staff gave me my tea, with ice, when I explicitly said no ice. I informed him of this and he said he would take it out... which he did... and replaced it with water. He replaced the frozen water. With liquid water. I will not...

I vowed to myself to leave a review of my experience here, and I never leave reviews. I wasn't a customer, but someone who was trying to get a job here. Came in for an interview and everything seemed okay, and after I went into training the boss mentioned that he had hired and fired over 1000 workers! (Which is not a bragging point in my opinion) and expected me to learn everything in a week. I thought to be doing well. I wasn't exactly cramming down all the recipes in due time but I found myself without proper training (I later got a job at Starbucks). AND when he called to let me go (which left me by surprise) I called to receive the money I worked for (7hrs a day) and he didn't send it in when he had promised. I asked again, because maybe it was mistake and the check still didn't come in. I had to literally walk into the store and demand my money. If he has had over 1000 workers as he claims, I doubt this hasn't...

They have a good variety of things on their menu, a very large selection of drinks and a few snacks as well. We tried the lychee and passion fruit slushes. The flavors were good but not the best we'd had. The service was professional. We also tried the fish bread; one with custard and the other with chocolate. We preferred the custard but neither of them were great. The fish breads we're cooked for us fresh, which is nice but take a while so be prepared to wait a bit. They seemed a bit undercooked but we haven't had a lot of these at other places. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be? All around not a bad place to get...
