A little bird told me La Capilla Mexican Restaurant gives free food on your birthday. Being one not to pass up on free, my family & I hippity hopped our way here for lunch. Okay, I was the only one that hippity hopped. Hey, it was my birthday! ;p

Fresh chips & salsa to start. The salsa was too spicy for some, but not for me.

I decided upon the chile relleno combo plate- Busting at the seams with cheese, this hefty plate was tasty & good. Accompanied with a ton of beans, a scoop of rice & a dollop of sour cream, the chile was the least heavy of the dishes we had. Did I mention it was drowning in cheese, inside & out? If you like cheese, then you're in luck at La Capilla.

My family enjoyed the chimichanga & enchilada combo plates. They also looked filling & satisfying. Cheesy, of course.

To end the meal, yours truly had a complimentary leche flan for dessert- It was the instant flan made from a box, but being free, I'm not complaining. It reminded me of the lychee pudding cups sold at Asian supermarkets. The whipped cream on top was a nice touch. A few bites and it was gone, gone, all gone!

Service was good. Our attendant filled our drinks & brought out our food in a timely manner. Plenty of seating, with tables & booths. Think El Torito and you'll have an idea of the layout. Parking is in a private lot that's anchored by Super 1 Mart.

La Capilla offers Mexican food that, while not mind blowing, is satisfying comfort food that'll fill you up for a decent price. I enjoyed my free meal & will be back for my next birthday. Which I hope to have many, many more...

Update 7/13/25 Still my favorite restaurant EVER!! Best shreDded chicken I've ever had! Been coming here for almost 40 years. But I wanted to share just how kind and honest the staff are. I took my 93 year old grandma here yesterday (we go regularly) and she brought an envelope of cash to pay, but I didn't let her pay. She lost the envelope at the restaurant and didn't notice until after they closed. I called this morning, and they found it and kept it safe to return to her. I couldn't believe it! Thank you so much to all the staff. You are hands down AMAZING IN EVERY WAY!

Consistently great food and service! Never had a bad experience.

Update: I was back yesterday for my birthday. Still my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant. That's why they have been in business so long, and everyone I know, has their own special story about this place. Great food, great service, consistency and their drinks are worth more than the price. Friend and family favorite for 4 generations now. Fed a family of 4 with drinks and dessert for about $100 with leftovers to take home. Excellent value and...

Beware!!!

Last night, I used a pre-paid Visa (a gift from my employer) to pay my bill and today the balance has been wiped out! According to the customer service department, more than 6 transactions were made online (Starbucks, Walmart, Target, Cabela’s, Pay Pal, etc.).

When I contacted the manager, Jim, he seemed to be helpful at first. However, once he disclosed to me that the hostesses run all credit card transactions and that the hostesses were his daughters, the conversation completely shifted. Jim was adamant that his daughters would never do this. In fact he told me to investigate the matter and prove that this actually happened.

I don’t think Jim realizes how competitive the restaurant industry is and that good Mexican restaurants are a dime a dozen. My family will never be back to this restaurant and not just because we got ripped off, but because management does not know the first thing about taking care of...
