Witness the spectacle of the hunter meticulously stalking his prey. I, being the methodical hunter & the helpless, doomed prey being................free samples!
Super 1 Mart is a Korean supermarket in La Palma offering great deals on produce, meat & ready made food. Every weekend, sample ladies offer various soup, curries, mandoo & other food to shoppers passing by. Like Costco, w/o the membership fee & ginormous quantities of products.
Why go to uber-expensive Albertson's, when you can get quality items for cheap at Super 1 Mart? What quality items you say? Well, we're talking about a dozen organic, free range eggs for $4 & change. We're talking about Satsuma tangerines for a really good price. Green tea Kit Kats, too! Ethnic supermarkets offer the best selection & prices on produce, bar none.
Need something quick for dinner? Super 1 Mart has you covered. With ready made food plastic-wrapped & awaiting you, like japchae & Korean pancakes. All at reasonable prices & better for you than a stop at Jack in the Crack.
The seafood section always seems fresh, with imported fish from Norway & other regions. Packaged sushi & sashimi, uni & live fish round out the options available for your fishy needs.
On every occasion I've been here, the supermarket has been slow to busy, but not packed like Zion in Hawaiian Gardens. The aisles seem to have just enough space to not seem cramped. Parking can be hard to come by during peak hours, with a lot shared by La Capilla, Soy Tofu, Boba Loca, Pho Home & other businesses.
Located on the left of Super 1 Mart by the entrance, Cocohodo has a location for your hodo gwaja (walnut balls) fix. There used to be a Man Doo Rang Express & a soondubu shop, but it looks like they have closed, unfortunately.
Super 1 Mart is a great place to stock up on provisions, with an Asian flair. Cheap prices, quality selection & the free samples keep this shopper's cart pointed in Super 1 Mart's direction. You'll find me here on any given weekend, stuffing my face with samples like a squirrel does...
Read moreI went to this market in the morning today, Dec. 31 2020. As expected, it was very busy. I actually wanted to give this place 3.5 starts this time but since there's no half star and considering they had everything I wanted almost everytime and the staff were always friendly, 4 star would be fair. But today was disappointing. They didn't take more actions for this covid situation. It looked like business as usual pre-covid. No line getting in even though it was very very busy. With that said, inside was very crowded with less to no social distancing. They didn't wipe or provide antibacterial wipes for the carts. I didn't see anyone (employee) cleaning them. They had one bottle of hand sanitizer near the entrance. I wrote this review not to say bad things about this market but to give people heads up, so you know what you're going into. I visit this market on regular basis and always love shopping here. I just wish they were more diligent on health and safety...
Read moreThis Korean/Asian market is a local neighborhood gem. It has almost all the necessities I need if I'm craving a Korean dish or attempting to make a recipe at home, from quality kimchi, tofu, fresh produce, meats, and more. All the aisles and inventory are packed into a small space, so it's a challenge to maneuver sometimes, especially when it gets busy. I shop here during the week for fewer crowds than the weekends or evenings. Prices are reasonable and comparable, if not better than other big-name markets.
There's usually plenty of parking, but with other businesses in the plaza, it can also be a waiting game. A few other small businesses are offered inside the market. I haven't had any issues with customer service, cashiers, and other staff doing their jobs with a smile and getting...
