Phish Tales — Restaurant in Lake City

Walking in this place is very unassuming as you’ll see over and over in other reviews. We were told this place had amazing food and wings! It does not. Womp womp… We had a wonderful waitress, she had blonde hair and a welcoming personality who made the lack of enjoyable food tolerable.

My husband got “the Philly” which you automatically are ready for shaved beef, hoagie roll, cheese etc. What he got was gristle filled left over meat that was force cooked steak tips in a hoagie roll, with the consistency of shoe leather. Poor guy got through 3 bites and just ate his tater tot’s. Also, if we’re going to say “Philly” let’s not insult them with this sandwich… it’s rude… and Philly should sue.

We also got their wings, i will give you that they were crispy! Thank you for that, but flavorless. The sauce didn’t stick to the wings and melted into a sad pool at the bottom of the basket, with zero flavor.BUT! They were crispy.

I, myself, got the Grupen. An interesting take. The fish was cooked tenderly, I got blackened. The flavor on the blackened wasn’t even notable. The slaw on the sandwich was so chunky and over powering I tasted cabbage and carrot more than the fish. One highlight, was the tartar sauce had good flavor. Other wise, the entire sandwich was a soupy sloppy mess, the rye bread was soggy and couldn’t hold up the level of condiments held on the sandwich let alone the grease dripping off the fish, yes I forgot to mention the grease on the fish.

In other news, our soon to be 2 year old LOVED the tater tot’s and our 9 year old loved the ice cream.

Unfortunately, this place has never heard of spices, flavor, or when to use proper bread/ different cuts of meat.

Appalled at what happened at one of my favorite places (not anymore) to eat in Lake City. All 3 in my party ordered the special. It came with a side. The side was cold and we sent it back. (I’m fine with the side being cold and having to send it back, that’s not the problem). She takes all 3 of the sides, returns about 4-5 minutes later and says “I can’t remember who’s is who’s”. We’re like you mean these were ones you took back to reheat and we may or may not get the one we ate out of?? She sees the astonished look on my face and said “oh, you want me to get you new ones” and took them away. We had been finished with our meal for 5 minutes by the time she came back with 2 sides. We never did get the third but that’s ok, I had lost my appetite. No one had the stomach to eat it anyway. I mention what happened to the manager. He apologized, said that shouldn’t happen and started walking away. I said you could lose your license for things like that and he said “I doubt that, but ok”. That’s it. We were certainly charged for the 3 sides, in which we only got two and no sense of caring or even understanding what the problem was. So beware if your immune system is compromised or if you sit next to someone who also returns their side, you may just get theirs and who knows what they might have….What else are they turning a blind eye to back in the kitchen where you can’t see....

Me and my guy decided to get lunch at PhishTales. Today was the first time I have ever encountered the owner. He was disgustingly rude!! I ordered honey garlic wings fried crispy with an order of fries. What I received was cold old fries and slimy wings. I informed the young lady whom was our server. She went and told the owner. He came to the table as if he was offended! I told him my concerns and he asked if I wanted my wings cooked longer, I said yes. He grabbed my dish very rudely without even asking if he could take it. Ok, I over looked that! I had already bit off one of the wings and put the bone in the basket…. I see him throw the bone in the trash and give the remaining already tossed wings back to the cook to refry. I had already eaten out of the basket!!!! Fast forward, I heard the owner ask the cooks, “Are they burnt yet?” I get the wings back and they are just that!! I informed my server of my disappointment. While venting, another manager come by and apologized. The owner also came by while overhearing the conversation and shrugged his shoulders and said sorry as if like whatever!! Not sure if he didn’t like the color of my skin or the fact that I wanted my order corrected. Either way treating a customer with such disgust is unacceptable! The next time I will visit Gators Dockside instead or make my own wings at home. They taste...
