Hong Yip Restaurant — Restaurant in Lake City

Okay, I’ve eaten here a handful of times now and I can now recommend this restaurant. They also offer delivery which is rare these days.

I am super picky when it comes to Chinese-American food, but this place honestly reminds me of the small hole in the wall restaurants I used to find in Brooklyn. Also, it’s SO hard to find restaurants outside of NYC that make good tofu, and Hong Yip has nailed it every time.

I’ve tried the Mapo Tofu, the Sesame Tofu, and the General Tso’s Tofu and they were all amazing. I keep going back for the General’s Tofu with the vegetable fried rice on the side.

I also enjoy the Crab Rangoon, the Shrimp Rolls, and the Spring Rolls.

$6.99 per person for a buffet, not bad pricing.

But there was little food out, no sign of making more or when asking no straight answer was given. All the ice cream, even chocolate taste minty, the egg drop soup was cooled, and the bathrooms look horrible. The building is outdated, the bathrooms need to be drown in bleach and the cooks need to step up their game. Tables held empty plates and trash from previous visiters for the first 30 minutes of the full hour I was there.

The worst Chinese’s buffet I’ve ever been to in my life. We got there and the lady who was working the front desk was yelling at her kids as loud as she could. We asked for a table and she ignored us. Another gentlemen finally said our waiter would be there soon to seat us but it was a child. He took our drink orders and we got up to get our first plate, but when we got up to look, everything was EMPTY. Literally every single tub was empty except for trays of fruit at the front.
