Would have loved to actually TRY the food because I love Mediterranean food... My daughter and I walked in at 11:45am. There were 2 people behind the line, working on food or prep or whatever. We stood at the front, not sure if we needed to be seated so I said "Hi, good afternoon", just incase maybe they didnt notice us, even though both of them made eye contact with me when we came in. Zero acknowledgment. So, we went up to the counter, stood there for another 2 minutes, all while the 2 people who work there carried on their own conversation/fight, never once acknowledging our presence. Ive been in the restaurant industry for 24 years, so I understand that things happen etc but to blatantly ignore customers (prob the first ones of the day, the restaurant was COMPLETELY empty) is a NO for me. We stood there a few more seconds until I decided were going next door to Mustard Cafe. I give this restaurant less than a year. Good luck. Mustard Cafe was really great, btw, super friendly, had several tables and the food was great. Treat your guests like GUESTS.
Edit*
The owner responded, saying the restaurant is closed on Modays. How were we supposed to know that? We walked in, the doors were open and as I said, nobody acknowledged us, even though they looked me in the eye. I guess it was MY fault for not knowing. Maybe you should actually close the doors, if you are in fact closed. At least someone could have actually murmured a word to...
Read moreI wish I could give this place 10 stars! This is cute place with a nice ambience and EXCELLENT food! We started off with the hummus and baba ghanoush and right away knew that everything is made fresh. I ordered the lentil soup and it was so yummy and flavorful and hot, like soup is suppose to be. My husband ordered the Koftah kabob plate and he loved it. It was cooked to perfection and the rice was fantastic. We shared the Fatoush salad and the cucumbers and tomatoes were crispy and tasted like they were picked fresh from a garden. The service from Samm and Abood was so personable and just a breath of fresh air! They were so friendly and made us feel welcome and that they appreciated our business. It's always nice to meet the owner and you can tell they really take pride in the food they serve and want the customers to love it. They even brought us a little treat of Baklava that was so delicious I want to order a whole pan of it for holiday time. We are so happy we found such an amazing mediterranean place near us and look forward to coming back! If you haven't tried this place it's a must visit! This is not only a great place in Lake Forest area, but one of the best in...
Read moreWe love Mediterranean food so when I saw this place on my way to Target, we decided to stop for lunch. The place looked nice, actually quite cozy so we went in.
I was a bit taken aback by the price of the food, especially for lunch as it looks like they only have one menu for both lunch and dinner. All entree dishes are in the $20's. My wife had the shrimp kabob and it was so-so. The hummus for the vegetarian appetizer plate was very good but the amount of food was pretty meager for $17 (see the photo on their menu page). Although they state that they have vegetarian options, I counter that these options are really just appetizers or salads.
While the people working (son with mother and father?) were very friendly, the wait to order, get the food, and get the check were quite long even though there was only one other table being served. The other thing that I thought was weird was that when the server stopped by the table when we were clearly finished eating and asked if we needed anything else, he did not clear the plates or send the check.
Probably won't be going back because of the prices mainly but also because the other things I wrote...
