I used to love coming the the Lantern a few years ago when I worked in Lake Forest and was waiting for the Metra. Since then I’ve been back a few times. And I brought my kids back today. They quality of the food has gone down hill. I’m really disappointed. I went tonight with my three young kids for dinner and spent just over a hundred dollars. My son’s cheese pizza looked like it was freezer burned and microwaved. My daughter’s chicken tenders were dry as heck. The onions rings had no flavor. My fish and chips looked like a sea cucumber and tasted like what one would imagine that tastes like, and the cole slaw tasted like you bought it for aldis. The chips and guac: chips were completely oily and burned and the guac was brown and flavorless. And even the cheese curds were bland and overcooked. Not a single thing came out tasty. I’m genuinely disappointed, I used to love this place. Vibe is still good, but guys, get your kitchen sorted out. Maybe clean out your deep drier or something. Figure out how to make quality food. Maybe drop some things from your menu if that spreads you thin. I really didn’t want to pose a public opinion, I don’t like that that does to small business… but for over a hundred bucks on food I expected a least one thing to...
Read moreMy husband and I were going to try this restaurant today. When we arrived there wasn't a hostess, so we just found an empty table and sat down. We sat for 5 minutes without either of the two apparent servers acknowledging us. There were 3 other tables of patrons there when we arrived. After waiting for several more minutes for the server to come over to give us menus, I decided to go over to ask for menus since he seemed busy waiting on two other tables. I let him know we were seated by the window, thinking maybe he was unaware since we seated ourselves. After another 10 minutes, he still was waiting on the other tables and hadn't approached us, not even a signal from him that he'd be over as soon as he could,. We were not approached or even acknowledged by the other server either who was assisting one of the other 3 tables. We were not served at all, not offered a glass of water or even a table place settings....
Read moreWent in with the old lady, after being back in town from our summer cottage. Our waiter was a jack of all traits and super nice. He was a younger gentleman and seemed to be handling the entire floor to himself, as well as seating people. He was great, even wore a mask if that's still a thing to be scared of (if ever in the first place) Lady ordered a wrap which was perfect. I ordered a medium rare sirloin, was given a hockey puck covered in grease. Didn't want to argue or request management, so I left it on the plate and told the waiter and was a bit appalled that I was only given a 50% discount for the item.. Hopefully the road construction on Deerpath isn't hurting business this bad to comp a bad meal (it happens, I get it - this isn't Gibsons) Not compelled to have to play the "Can I speak to your manager game" especially when the waiter was busting his butt keeping the...
