Grothe's Diner & Coffee House — Restaurant in Lake Mills

I'm convinced all the people leaving good reviews are friends of the owners. We went to visit my Grandma in Lake Mills last night and decided to try this diner out. Service was horrible. Bunch of kids working there but didn't see any adults. Our malts came pretty fast, however our meals took almost an hour to get to our table, and there was only one other table with people when we got there.

My girlfriend had the turkey commercial, and it was just sliced lunch meat turkey, not like real turkey slices. She said it was super salty and didn't eat it. My grandma said her beef commercial was OK, but the potatoes were cold and hard. I had the meatloaf. Completely inedible. Meatloaf was rock hard and not like any other meatloaf I've had. My mashed potatoes didn't have any gravy or butter, none at the table. They were also cold and hard. I asked where my daughters hot dog and fries where and the waitress was like "ummmm" like she didn't know what we were talking about. We waited at least another 20 minutes for her hot dog and fries. She only ate a couple bites and the. Asked if we could go to the buffet at the pizza place instead.

Very disappointing experience. I'm guessing they won't be in business long with service and...

I had an absolute terrible experience here. It was a SLOW Thursday and there was 2 tables in there one had already eaten. We ordered quickly then 4 other tables came in. All 4 tables ordered, ate and left before we received the first part of our meals. My wife's food came 10ish minutes after the kids food came and my food (which was the same as my wife's) came out 10ish minutes after my wife's. They did take a WHOLE $5 off my bill but the waitresses excuse was there is only 1 waitress and 1 cook. That does not explain why our tables food did not get going before everyone that arrived after us had ordered, ate and left. It also does not explain why there was at least a 20 minute window of our family getting our meals. Then as Im cashing out the waitress asked if i would like a receipt and I responded “no” she then says you don't have to be rude sir. I will never do business there again witch is sad because this a SMALL town and all small businesses need...

We walked into this diner at quarter to closing, there was no hesitation to provide service. We promptly had two pork tenderloins, a side salad and fries in front of us. The staff is absolutely delightful. The pork tenderloin was great. If your local or if you're cruising through town, you need to check this place out. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Prices are absolutely reasonable for what you get. This is true Americana in a small town. I would have liked to post a picture of my pork tenderloin, but I was hungry and ate it too fast. The waitress also told me that they have outstanding malts and offered to make us one each even though it was after closing. I very rarely see this effort to go the extra...
