This was by far the WORST place I have ever eaten. At first glance it looks like you walk into what used to be a penthouse suite that was cleared out and set with a bunch of overly crowded tables. The view was AMAZING, but that was the only positive thing about this place. I came with a bachelorette group and was seated at one of there long tables that somehow they scrunched together with other long tables in this almost fanned out style. At the head of the table everyone was so close to the tables to the sides of us, then at the base (closer to the windows) it was more spaced out. As our time there went on and the sun started to set I notice how insanely dark it was getting to the point I feel like someone forgot to turn some lights on. It did not feel romantic ambience dark, just dark. Then, the fact that it was SO LOUD. This room was PACKED full of people practically yelling over each other to talk to their friends/family. In my experience at higher ended/high star restaurants, you tend to see lead staff/management walking around greeting and/or asking how people were doing. That never happened and I feel like if it was, we might have been able to discuss our worries at the start instead of having to simmer for the almost 3 hours we were stuck there. After sitting with just drinks (that rarely got refilled until asked) for about an hour, we got the tables complimentary cracker and dip appetizer. I was shocked when that arrived since normally if a restaurant offers a complementary pre-meal snack you get that within AT LEAST 30mins of sitting down. Roughly 30mins after that our food arrived. Honestly, it was mediocre and disappointing for the big charge on it. I plate shared the mahi and it was very over cooked and dry, though the mashed potatoes were spectacular. After everyones cups were once again empty and our food was finished we waited another 25mins for the waiter to come ask how everything was. Everyone was so upset by that point having gone from 100 to 0, I asked for the manager. She was VERY kind, very apologetic, and very honest. She told me that they were overbooked and understaffed and she would provide a discount. Ten minutes pass and she comes out and explains what she did for us and that we would get our check shortly. After waiting ANOTHER 30MINUTES FOR THE CHECK TO MAKE IT TO OUR TABLE our whole party, feeling so overwhelmed/annoyed by the noise, darkness, and waiting game, (aside from me and another girl) left to wait outside. Once the check came we paid and left. Now I have never run a restaurant, but I would think if you are trying to run a high end place to eat that charges what seems like an arm and a leg for your food/environment, you might rearrange or cancel some or the newer made reservation times? I don’t know, but it just overall was an awful awful experience and I feel for the workers there just as much as the other customers that I know were probably just as...
Read moreLet me start this off by saying I am a sous chef so I’m a tad bit picky when it comes to food. But it wasn’t the food that really bothered me. My boyfriend my daughter (1yo) and i went to JB Hooks tonight for the 2nd time and honestly it wasn’t all that terrific. When we got there we went to the hostess stand to get a table and there were two women standing there, one was on the phone booking a reservation and the other helped us to a table. When we got to the table we sat down (daughter in my arms) the hostess walked away and didn’t ask if we wanted a highchair or anything so my boyfriend walked to the car to get her car seat. He walks back in with said car seat and another woman came up and asked if we wanted a high chair and we said yes. I guess she forgot that she was getting a high chair because she never came back. 😂👌 then another lady asked us the same question and we ended up getting our high chair like 5 minutes before we got our salad and appetizer. Anyways our appetizer and salads come and we realized that we did not have any silverware on the table (table wasn’t correctly set up) so we waited another 5 or so minutes for our server to come back and he finally came back to check on us and we told him we didn’t have any silverware (the waiter is actually a fantastic waiter) and he came right back with some silverware. I start digging into the house salad and for the most part it was good but the croutons were STALE. Dressing 2/5 I got the Stuffed Chicken Chardonnay. It was good but the breading was overcooked to the point where I could barely even bite through it. And if I find out they’re only using cream of mushroom soup for the sauce then they’re false advertising My boyfriend got the mahi mahi special with the pineapple remoulade and the plating wasn’t great. I’d consider putting the mahi on top of wild rice then the remoulade. Maybe it’s because he got potatoes instead of rice, I’m not sure. But the plating wasn’t good at all.
Honestly I’m not trying to leave a harsh review but the quality of food and the service definitely was not worth $130. Should’ve complained and got comped and tipped the server the remainder of the bill. I won’t...
Read moreI decided to take my boyfriend to a new restaurant as I always go to Baxter's when I'm at the lake. What a mistake😞. First off, I check in about 8 minutes early for my reservation. The hostess says it will be a few minutes. We sit down on a couch RIGHT BESIDE the hostess area. 23 minutes passes and I decide to check on my reservation and I'm told with an attitude, we texted you 10 minutes ago that your table was ready. I said, I was sitting right here and you never once told me I would be notified by text. Both hostesses looked at me with annoyance and idgaf attitudes.
We are seated and it is a lovely view of the lake. The atmosphere does not disappoint. We wait several minutes for our waitress to arrive, but the bus boy does bring us water and was seemed happy to be there. The waitress took our drink order and seemed irritated that we didn't order alcoholic drinks and that my boyfriend wanted espresso.
I waited 5 minutes for my diet coke--he waited 23 minutes for his espresso!!! Appetizers arrived and my boyfriend asked for bread. The waitress scolded him saying bread doesn't come out until the meal arrives. We look around and other tables have bread with their appetizers. My calamari was breaded 5× over and cold. The oysters were delicious but I had to fully detach them myself.
Our salad and soup arrived. I was not offered fresh cracked pepper for my ceaser salad and the waitress didn't come back to our table for 15 more minutes. The friendly bus boy brought me a fresh soda and my bf got up to find me a pepper grinder.
Dinner arrived with our bread. Our bread service was 2 rolls when everyone around us also had cracker style bread with what looked like a honey or strawberry butter. The waitress disappeared, never asking how our dinner was. The bus boy was again the only helpful, pleasant staff person who checked on us.
The waitress finally brought our bill and took another 15 minutes to give our cc back. We were so thankful to get out of there and sadly I won't be...
