I went in there about 3 months ago for the first time. The owner was there, a very friendly older gentleman actually working with the employees. I told them my horror story about K.F.C a few minutes prior, at 10428 S. Cicero ave. in which I had to ask for my money back from the manager who completely screwed up my order and refused to make it right (Please see my K.F.C review!!!) The Popeye's owner and crew had a good laugh at my story, but sympathized saying, that's no way to run a business! My food that night was tender, juicy, and obviously freshly made. This brings me to last week. A difference of night and day! I placed my order by a young girl who could not even muster a "Hello, welcome to Popeye's, may I help you", all I got was a blank stare. Which seems to happen at more and more places these days! The store was full of zombie employees walking around in a daze (I'm surprised none of them were staring at smartphones!) none of them knew who was filling who's order. There were several angry customers talking loudly about the recent change in ownership. Ah ha! So, I quickly figured out the dilemma. I grabbed a manager as he was "punching out" for the day and asked him if he could please check on my order. He said "I'm sorry, I'm off work" and walked away. I finally got my order, and I will say, it was fresh and tasted like Popeyes should. But the service alone warrants this review. I also caught the manager speaking with an employee saying he was here from another store top "train" this crew, well now I see how they were being trained. This new owner has 0 chance of success, unless he gets himself in there and works very hard with the crew and makes some staff changes quickly. I'm ashamed because this was the best popeyes I ever tasted in the south side area. I'm the type of guy that travels to different locations with the best hopes and I'm usually disappointed. This popeyes beats mokena, Tinley Park, midlothian, homewood, evergreen park, the bad crestwood, and the worst Markham. The chicken had the flavor I would taste from other states such as georgia, michigan, colorado, etc. Bought me back to my childhood, when I use to eat popeyes. Please keep up the good work. I thought there might have been a mandate in illinois that caused popeyes to suck and lose its flavor, maybe a tax that makes the spices more expensive. Hands down, if they can maintain the consistency of what I had yesterday, I will never go to another popeyes again but this one. The only popeyes in illinois that comes close is jefferson Park and skokie in illinois. Trust me, I seek good chicken all the time. I even paid over 40 just to have good chicken before at Marcello's (They lost their broasted chicken back last decade and lied that they were still doing it). Read moreThis is by far the worse Popeyes ever! They need to close it down. The service is bad. They never have chicken or anything that you order and they give the rudest service ever. Do not even try to contact the corporate office because they write to you saying the same sorry message but never do anything about it. They were supposed to have a store leader call me about an incident that happened where one of there employees did not want to make anymore chicken at 8:30 pm when they close at 10pm. That might have been okay but he rudely asked if we wanted to come in to make it ourselves and then threaten to come out and physically fight my husband. Will never go back there again and hope they get there store & employees in order because we pay a lot to live in this area to have that kind of food service. What Popeyes doesn’t ever have chicken!
