I live dangerously close to Margie's, so dangerously close that I have to walk on the other side of the street on my way home from work so that I'm not lured in by the ice cream and other sweets that they offer up. Over the last year I've tried a lot of Margie's offerings, some of which stand out more than the others. 1) Their ice cream. Wow. I haven't had a flavor or sundae that hasn't sent me into a sugar-laden heaven. I love how they have a wide variety of flavors, ranging from your standard chocolate to moose tracks to mint chocolate chip. Each scoop of ice cream is served with their signature waffle cookie on the side, which I could do without, but I know a bunch of regulars go crazy over this. Their sundaes are incredibly large and decadent, and their hot fudge is to die for! You really can't go wrong with any ice cream creation here. 2) Chocolate Cake: You should definitely pass this up. The cake looks much, much better than it tastes. The cake was overdone, dry, and flavorless, and the frosting didn't do too much to help the flavor. Maybe it was just really old cake, but if that's the case, they shouldn't serve it. 3) Assortment of sweets: I've tried their chocolate covered cherries, sea salt caramels, and chocolate covered Oreos. All of these have been incredibly fantastic and freshly made--you really can't go wrong. Margie's has a cute atmosphere that reminds me of an old fashioned ice cream/soda counter. The staff is always very friendly and helpful, even when there is a long line out the door in the summer months. If you're up in the Ravenswood area craving some ice cream, Margie's is...

We enjoy the turtle sundae(cheap@ $8.95 ) served inside with a clam shell serving bowl. It's Kemps ice cream so ingredient lists are available online. Many flavor choices! Most items come with 2 or three scoops. I highly recommend their thick gooey hot fudge, smooth caramel and sweet translucent butterscotch sauces. Mmmm. You won't find these sauces anywhere else... all good, or even better with whipped cream, nuts and a cherry. My personal favorite is the Grandpa's Sundae, a Turtle sundae with a Terrapin (turtle candy), for $8.95...two scoops of your choice, caramel and hot fudge. Photo is of a Butterscotch Junior Sundae. Mmmm, real Butterscotch! Can't get this at a DQ or Culver's...
Please ask to see the paper menu and not just read the wall menu to see all your choices. The grilled cheese Panini sandwich offered with a fresh salad and chips was surprisingly good at $6.95.
Shared bathroom is a bit tight, C+.
Not ADA accesible! Revolving door main entry makes wheelchair access impossible. A folding walker may be possible, however.
Side window ordering to go is available and is wheelchair...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOne of the worst experiences I've had from a customer service perspective. To begin with the lay out of the restaurant is horrible. Small and cramped. It was our first time there. As I was paying my wife saw an open table and sat down. I requested that the ice cream was taken to where we were seating and cashier stated that "she couldn't do that because we were on the to go line only". Mind you there is no way of knowing that if you've never been there before. It is not only until you're actually paying that you see a sign by the register, "In house service, see waiter". I noticed there was an additional table open away from the crowd and asked my wife if she wanted to move. I proceeded to get our ice cream and the guy who handed me our ice cream asked arrogantly, "Oh you're actually seating down? The seats are for dine in service only, if someone comes in and needs a table you're going to have to leave". I understand if there is a process to their business and I respect that, however their approach was not customer service friendly and therefore will never return nor recommend. Product wise, nothing special. Oberweis is better and...
