Honestly, DeVry has done well for me. An accredited university that offers all online classes. It is fantastic when you are unable to sacrifice work to further your education. The programs offered are what you make of it, same as any other school; rather, the same can be said for most things in life. DeVry is pushing for more group activities in most of their courses now and I think it is a fantastic move. You will learn how to work multiple people across multiple time zones and coordinate major projects together. As with anything group related, people tend to fear group projects yet, I have only had good, hard-working people. Most people I've dealt with at DeVry have been strongly professional. From the students to the staff, to include the professors. I have learned a plethora of information from this university and I think everyone can if they put forth the same amount of effort as they would for a traditional four-year university. Of course there are some minor issues, such as cost. One thing to keep in mind is that it is a private university, i.e. for profit. That does not change the criteria and the information obtained. In my opinion, it is unfortunate for those who have a negative review. They have either been incredibly unlucky or they are upset for personal reasons against the school. I attended DeVry in the past and have had some negative experiences so, I stopped going. I have since continued and am currently in my final semester. A lot has changed and I feel it is really for the better. A word to the wise, it is a very self-driven system. So if you lack the ability to sit yourself down, set some time aside, then you may want to either reconsider for the sake of your time and money. Work hard and the...
Read moreI am investing thousands of dollars into a degree that is failing to provide the practical skills and educational support needed to be job-ready. The video materials on the learning platform are outdated and do not align with the current project deliverables. If changes are made to the project, the instructional videos should reflect those changes immediately. The projects assigned are basic enough to be completed in a single week, yet we spend entire modules on them. There is little explanation about their purpose or importance, leaving students without context or value. There are direct contradictions in the presentations—for instance, tasks marked as “optional” that are later penalized if not completed. This causes confusion and unnecessary stress. Feedback from instructors has been inconsistent and, at times, dismissive. I followed the provided template to the best of my ability, yet still had points deducted without clear justification. As a working student with limited time, the rigid deadlines for discussions and assignments—such as midweek cutoffs—completely ignore the realities of students taking this program online for its supposed flexibility. To compensate for these shortcomings, I have had to pay for third-party platforms like LabEx to actually learn relevant tools such as Linux, Kali Linux, Wireshark, GitHub, and Python. These are real-world skills I should be gaining through this course. It is deeply discouraging to know that despite my efforts, I’m falling into debt for something that is not delivering on its promise. I could have pursued a bootcamp or alternative training that offers more hands-on experience and practical value in less time and with...
Read moreI used to attend a private college in Naperville that was not catering to my interests and educational needs, so after taking a year break I found DeVry University. I ended up moving outside of the city of Chicago and commuting to this campus just for the professors, even though there was a smaller campus closer to my house in O'Hare that I took some general ed classes at for the convenience. The technology programs are amazing! I had no interest at all in programming until I took my very first class in VB and fell in love with the concepts. The professors in the IT programming/security/networking fields are very supportive and attentive to your needs and learning growth. Professor Nana Liu, in particular, always encouraged me to try harder and guided me in the right direction. When it came down to our Senior Project, it wasn't a research or a mock project -- we were programming for real and working with the client to meet an end goal. It felt like a job rather than just an 10 week project! I graduated in July of 2016 and started contracting for a packaging company immediately in September. Now I am salaried full-time at the same company and loving what I do. I am very grateful for DeVry University for getting me where I am now. I grew with my classmates for 2 years and graduated with some of the coolest, like-minded people I've ever met - it was a truly...
