Chili's Grill & Bar — Restaurant in Lake Wales

I tried to refrain from posting a review as I had hope for this chilis as I am a regular customer at this location for about 2 years now and it's the closest chilis to my home. However, after last nights visit, from now on I will be making that extra drive to winter haven chilis! I have three bad experiences with this chilis and I tried after the first problem to give them a chance. The first problem happened when I ordered take out from this lake Wales location. We parked in Togo parking, my boyfriend went in to get the food while I sat in the car... There was a window straight into the kitchen... I watched a gentleman, who was getting ready to take a meal out to a table... No one else watching he takes the little saucer plates, both of them ( I guess still wet from the washing or were dirty or something) he rubs the front of both the plates right on his shirt! All over his shirt in circles! I don't know what you think but to me that's completely unsanitary, rubbing plates someone is about to eat off ALL OVER your sweaty, shirt that you've been working in all night, and if he's that unsanitary how many other unsanitary things is he doing! He then proceeds to take the plates out the door along with the food and serves those plates to a guest!!! When the manager brings my food out to the car I then tell him what I just witnessed! I could tell the manager was mad, he went in and was obviously upset with him... then I get home that same night and go to eat my boneless wings that are still freezing cold on the inside?!? So I let it go maybe they were having a bad night I don't know. The next time I decided to give them one more shot. This time we ate inside, service was terrible... We never got drink refills, someone else's waiter was the only one taking care of us and our own waitress only showed her face maybe twice... Needless to say she did not get a good tip! I tip based on service! And if you give me good service I'll give you a good tip. Then last night I go in there, got right in not much of a wait... Everything was good until the waiter asked if I was ready to order and I said I needed a minute.. I laid my menu on the table to show I was ready to order, He then returned to the table 25 minutes later... After we gotten our appetizer, which was served with no plates! Before he can run off again, to grab plates I get him to take our order. This time I decided to try again the boneless wings and the Texas cheese fries with everything on them. When our food arrives he Informs me that my cheese fries were not up to his liking and he sent them back to be recooked. I greatly appreciated it because if he hadn't I probably would have after the crappy time I had already been having. I then realize I don't have ranch for my wings.. He goes to get the ranch after I asked him when I ordered to bring me ranch instead of blue cheese, it took him about 10-15mins just to do that. Needless to say I eventually got my cheese fries And Still they were not correct. He had everything in little bowls as far as the toppings go and only the cheese was on the fries. thats fine no biggie, i can add the toppings (Except the missing chives). The point is he sent them back to be cooked correctly and he still brought them out wrong. Then I look over and the guy who rubbed the plates all over his shirt is serving the table next to me!!! I was just disgusted! At this point I was just ready to go we paid the bill and left still hungry. I was mad that we had to pay for any three of these bills! I never want to leave a restraunt feeling like my money wasn't well spent. I know this waiter is usually a fairly decent waiter as he was the one who actually took care of us the in the previous visit! I think I have just had my fill with the Chilis in lake Wales . When we walked in, no one was at the host/hostess stand, a bartender was watching us, made no attempt to say "someone will be right there" or anything. It was the weirdest welcome, well, it wasn't really welcoming. However, when the host came, he was very apologetic & sat us right away. We were there last night (6/14/17) at 6:30ish. Service wasn't slow, but our server wasn't incredibly friendly with me or my husband, but the next table of men slamming back some cold ones was a different story. She was attentive, but a genuine smile goes a long way & this is the second sub-par experience at this location. Sad part, I asked my husband en route to the mall if he was sure he wanted to go here & bless his heart, he said he had been looking forward to it all day. The food wasn't the best either, he got ribs & chicken crispers & the ribs were rough, he really had to pull at them like a caveman. I ordered boneless buffalo wings as my meal, I know it's an appetizer, but I don't eat much & I noticed in reading the menu over (lots of changes) that they now have different levels of heat for the buffalo sauce, so I wanted their traditional. When our server didn't ask, I assumed it would be the traditional sauce, but when them came, the first one I tried was so hot, I thought I was being a baby, but the second one was worse. I had my husband pause on his meal & try one, he was shocked by the heat, he even asked "are you going to be able to eat those?". I tried, trust me, I tried. I also ordered the new cheese bites, some were hot, most were cold (and they only give you like a tablespoon of the dipping sauce), but we just boxed my food. Our server never asked "anything wrong with the food?", I mean, in her defense, she did ask if everything looked right, which it did look right, but it wasn't. Neither of us complain & this was no exception because our bellies were full, and it wasn't the absolute worst, but it did put a stop to us returning to the Lake Wales location & I grew up in LW & love it. We live in Dundee, but will make the additional drive to the one in Winter Haven when we want Chili's moving forward. It was just disappointing. I'm rating it poor because they weren't busy and there is so much room for improvement. Let me also mention the bathrooms, they reminded me of a WalMart bathroom, I'm funny about bathrooms, I just want clean & no odors that you know didn't just happen. You could tell no staff member wanted to take on the responsibility of cleaning it either, paper towels everywhere. Other times I’ve been here everything has been excellent. Except for last night, our server was Robert Ca greeted us when he came back with our drinks we ordered and he took off in a rush with out even taking my daughters order he took forever I had to get another servers attention to find him he came back with our appetizer we start eating it and 3 minutes after that we get our food when we just got the app my daughter was still waiting on her pizza with corn after a while when he came back with the pizza he had brought it with oranges and fries and asked it was with oranges right ? And I said no but it’s fine and in a rude tone he replied well tell me what ever it is that you want and I’ll bring it I said it was fine and just stayed with those sides after he was being so rude offered boxes to go brought the dessert and when he gave a sprite refill it was soda water I payed on the ziosk and left a review and left him a 3.00$ tip on a 52.00$ bill I didn’t feel that with his attitude he deserved a 20percent tip or anything more than that I’m usually a very good tipper and tip accordingly as I worked as a server in the past myself and I expect to get great service as always do at this location. As soon as he saw the green light at the ziosk and saw me printing my receipt he rushed to the computer to find out what his tip was he circled the 3.00$ amount and with the crumbled receipt he printed he threw it across the table to us, at this point I was mad so I asked him to speak with a manager and he tried arguing back to me asking what was wrong I told him I would like to speak with his manager he ignored me turned around and started cleaning the tables beside us and left to the back. I stayed at the booth and few minutes later I spotted on of the managers talking to the bartender and called him over, manager Matt comes to our table and as I begin explaining what had happend in our visit Robert comes over and just stares at me and I told him excuse me I’m speaking with your manager and he says well what is it? Say it what was wrong ? In a very rude tone! I was so surprised as how he was acting and his attitude in front of a manager I explained everything to the manager he was very nice but as to the server I don’t think he should be representing chilis bar and grill that way he needs retraining or maybe a job in another non customer...
