Slim Chickens — Restaurant in Lake Wales

I'm not sure I can describe effectively how disappointed I am. We need restaurant choices in this stretch of 27/ Lake Wales north. I was pleased to see something coming in that was new to the area. I waited to review the place because I wanted to see how they'd be once the training was over and things settled in to a usual. In that time, I've been here at least a dozen times. To start out, the food was great. The staff was friendly and helpful. Then the staff churn started, and things began to slip. Staff has been mixed between friendly, emotionless, and actually rude. The last four meals have been very disappointing: three sandwiches in a row were tough and hard, like chewing leather. I even showed an employee the stringy hard chicken, and they stated at me blankly. Then today, I decided for one last chance to try something different; I got the 6 wing meal. I don't know how you cook wings to get a cold rubbery texture without even getting the skin closer to crispy. Did they microwave them? But to add insult to injury, I started to pick the feathers from one of the wings and just decided to call it a loss. I don't want to eat feathers, I don't want to have to pick my food, and I don't want cold food. Speaking of cold food, the fries seem to always be stale like they've been sitting under the heating lamp. They aren't hot, but simply warmed over, and not that warm. I really wanted to love the place. I've given it many, many chances. Maybe seeing this review will help corporate get the place back on track, or maybe this is all one should expect from this basically slow fast food chain. Oh, I gave atmo a low number as well. The design is fine, relatively comfortable. But nearly every time I've come in, I've needed to wipe down a table before sitting down. this place was truly disappointing, but i feel compelled to share the story to hopefully save others from the same fate. For starters i had an extremely frustrating experience at this place, Why you may ask.. well it’s simple, i had placed an order for me and my family and when i got home, i realized they had missed my buffalo tender mac bowl. I called the store to explain the issue and was told to come back it so they could fix it. When i arrived i was “greeted” by a child named Meredith, now i say this because this was genuinely the most immature person i have EVER met, from the moment i walked in she seemed extremely irritated right from the start. I calmly explained that i had called ahead and just needed the missing item i had paid for. She gave me a dismissive look and said “well that’s not my problem” I was taken aback by her rude tone and attitude, but i remained patient and asked if she could simply correct this mistake. And instead of being helpful she said and i quote “It’s not like we have all day to fix every little mistake” making me feel like an inconvenience. She finally handed me the missing item with no apology or acknowledgment of the frustration the situation. The lack of professionalism was SHOCKING! I left feeling extremely disrespected and will definitely be taking my business elsewhere. for the love of god.. STAY AWAY...

I travel on 27 from Central FL to South FL, and this location has caught my eye more than once. Finally, I was traveling though when it was lunch time, so I pulled in to check it out. I decided to try the Chick's meal with fries and a soda to keep it simple on my first visit. With so many sauces, it was difficult to decide. I ended up paying extra to be able to have 2 sauces. I took my number and found a seat inside. The drinks were self-serve. There were paper towels and ketsup bottles on the tables. Overall, I was impressed with the dining room. There were booths, tables and community tables. There were large screen tvs and music. There were high ceilings and decorative lighting. I noticed there was also a covered outdoor patio with ceiling fans. If it wasn't nearly a hundred degrees, I would have opted for the outdoor dining. They are far enough off the highway that it would have been pleasant in cooler temperatures. My food arrived quickly, and despite being hungry, the 3 piece meal was more than enough. The chicken was juicy and had a light crisp coating with nice flavor. This was definitely not a crunchy coating. The fries were hot and crisp. The Texas toast was buttery. I loved that they had other side options, maybe next time I'll get the fried pickles...
