This just goes to prove how often we may over look something just around the corner. 100 drive-bys never even noticed it. While in the area wife says she's hungry and wants breakfast and recommended we go to #*&#%$$@. I say wait let's try Charlie's. She looks it up quickly and we head over. She is stunned she didn't realize it's right the since she's literally works just blocks away.

Ok on to the food that's what this is about anyway. She ordered her breakfast and me lunch. She made the comment that this was the biscuits and gravy she was looking for, I'll admit it was quite good. I have no clue what I did with the Pic of my Turkey Club. So I'll describe it. Traditional 3 layers bacon, Turkey, lettuce, tomato and mayo. I added some French fries to it and man o man I enjoyed it. We weren't the only people enjoying a meal before the shut down for a week several other regulars had stopped to get their fix before they closed down for a week. Not sure why they are closed till the 13th but they are. I'll make another visit when they reopen and get that club with some different meats next time.

I took my car in for service early this morning and rather than wait at the dealer, I asked to be dropped off at a local restaurant for breakfast. So here I am at Charlie’s Family Restaurant by Dee located at 2614 Lakeland Hills Blvd., Ste 8 in the northern end of Lakeland. This is a relatively small restaurant located at the end of a strip mall. The staff were friendly and welcoming when I arrived. They have a large menu featuring breakfast served all day. (They also have a lunch menu.) I ordered a feta and spinach 3-egg omelet which came with a side of hash browns and a house made biscuit, served sliced in half, buttered, and grilled! Yum! To round out my meal I ordered crispy bacon and a glass of orange juice. The restaurant was busy and the waitstaff were all helping each other out so things ran like a well-oiled machine. The omelet was delicious, and the hash browns were crispy and well browned! The rashers were paper thin but crispy, the way I like them. I had an eye procedure done across the street which prevented me from being able to get back on the road immediately. So I stumbled into this little restaurant on the side of the road that was advertising fish fry. And I happened to be here on a Friday which was an all-you-can-eat fish fry for under $10!

Charlie's family restaurant is the epitome everything you love about a family restaurant. My fish was light and crispy. The sides were delicious. The wait staff is super friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere was relaxing. And while I was a newcomer, i watched them interact with some regular visitors and both knew their "regular" order as well as ask about their families. It was almost as if this was directed to be a backdrop for a movie in which the Stars would wander into the local eatery at any moment!

Now that I know where it is I hope to be back here again on one of my other visits to Lakeland. Truly...
