I had always wanted to try this place but never found the right time to until recently. I went in and everything was clean and the place was fairly busy with activity and customers. The ambiance was welcoming and comfortable. Where I sat, you could see the array of alcohols that they served. It was a very neat display. I had the sushi lunch special and a New Moon beef lunch box special. Both meals were delicious. There was a bit of a wait for the food but it was worth it.
Their miso soup was delicious beyond belief for me. It was thick, creamy and had such a powerful umami flavor. The salad in the lunch box was fresh and their dressing was not too over powering in one way or another. Balanced. The fried section of the lunch had an eggroll split in half length-wise. It tasted good and it was actually fried! Not the "fried" (baked) stuff you get from a lot of other places.
The fried dumplings were pretty good, although I admit no fragrance was there that wowed me.
There was a sauce in the center of the lunch box that was sweet, sour, tangy, which reminded me a lot of a Vietnamese fish sauce dipping sauce. It went well with the fried foods.
The rice was perfectly made. Sticky but not too sticky since I ate it with chopsticks and able to get the rice without issue. The star of the box was the beef. It was tender and smoky. I swear it may have had some teriyaki flavor to it, which is the best I can describe. But having the beef with the rice was wonderful. There's caramelized onions in the beef which only made things better.
The sushi, for a place that has the word sushi in it's name, was really good. I can't go into intricate detail as I'm only a casual sushi eater, but it's one of the best places that I've been to have sushi. I had the Eel roll and the Orlando Roll.
Over all, this is a place I would say check out. It has a comfortable atmosphere, the staff was very courteous and things were delicious. I will definitely make this a place I go to for lunch and dinner once every month if...
Read moreThe service is always fantastic and friendly here. We have consistently gotten personable service and super nice staff.
The food is so good as well, we usually get a Spicy Sandwich with the salmon which is unbelievably addictive, as well as calamari rings, delicious udon... pretty much anything we try on the menu is yummy. Wasn't a huge fan of the sliced beef dish but anything else is so good. Take a chance on octopus salad or soft shelled crab rolls.
I had some sort of passion fruit mixed drink here which was the bomb, and there is a rolling selection of sakes, beers, etc.
If you order frozen mochi for dessert, I must say it is not the kind that I am used to which has actual green tea ice cream center, but instead it is really like a frozen mochi.
The owners are very often present and clearly care deeply about the quality of the food and service as well. This restaurant is a great example of how to take pride in your business and give joy to customers. There aren't many places we frequent, but this is one of them that always makes the cut when we just don't feel like chancing being disappointed by another place.
A few beers, 3-4 premium rolls and an appetizer will run you about $75 here. We could squeak by under $50 with some imagination but we usually splurge a little here.
Overall it's a fair price for such a clean, kind and yummy place.
Edit: we've been return customers to new moon for about a year now. New moon is date night gold for us. You cannot beat the service and food. Our favorites have become caterpillar roll, salmon spicy sandwich, and a heaping bowl of seaweed salad. OMNOMNOM This restaurant is a place we never hesitate to bring friends or family to, in fact we're really proud...
Read moreThis was my first time going to New Moon Sushi. I have heard great things about it from others, but wanted to experience it myself. Service was prompt from when we were sat. A couple minutes to glance over the menu and we were ready to order. I had the Lakeland Roll and Spicy Salmon Roll (pictured) and my fiancee got a house salad with Shrimp Shumai. The Shrimp Shumai was sweeter than we expected, but was good. Because of the sweetness, I definitely recommend sharing. I did not have the house salad, but the better half said the dressing was great. The Lakeland Roll was the star of this show though. The Lakeland Roll is served warm with cooked shrimp inside. Outside is eel sauce and krab. I probably could have easily ate another Lakeland Roll if I hadn't ordered the Spicy Salmon, but I always try to get a special roll and regular roll. The Spicy Salmon was nothing to write home about. A well constructed roll with a slight hint of spice. I would have had it a little spicier for my taste, and I am heat adverse. Overall, a fantastic meal for under $50 including...
