I recently went to lunch at Avocado Café in Lakewood, NJ. It is located in Seagull Square. I have heard a lot about the place, but have never been. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at the open and modern design of the cafe. After browsing their menu, we settled on two dishes, two sides and two drinks. We are very well versed with Shaksuka. We have tasted it in many a restaurant, whether in a cast iron skillet or hot pan. However, we have never seen a Shakshuka Sandwich. We ordered it in a baguette (we were asked if we wanted whole wheat) and it was very unique. You see, usually you dip your sourdough INTO the shakshuka. Now you were eating it INSIDE the bread. It was really good, warm, and actually less messy than the actual dish. Really surprising. Naturally, I ordered an Avocado Toast on sourdough. They had four different types, one even with mango. Mine was the sunny side up avocado toast with guacamole, alfalfa sprouts, cherry tomatoes, pesto and lemon herb aioli. It was really good. It was a nice, thick piece of sour dough, slathered with guacamole and all of the toppings. It was also really filling. They have some really unique and different sides at Avocado café so we decided to try two. First was the Macaroni & Cheese Balls, made fresh in house. After cutting one open, I dipped it into the marinara sauce and took a bite. The outside was crispy and not too thick, while the inside had the perfect amount of cheese without being overwhelming. It was the perfect bite. For the second, I went with the Tater Tots Sticks, which is double cooked hashed brown sticks served with a lemon herb aioli. These were amazing. I was also told they were potatoes without the addition of any eggs. They were nice and thick “sticks’ or like French fry wedges, but had the perfect texture inside and amazingly crunchy outside. Add to that the aioli dip and it was the perfect side. For drinks they have many options including healthy ones. My wife went with a refresher and as for me I had the Belgian Hot Chocolate. It’s made with real chocolate and is extremely sweet, just the way I like it. They also have an amazing selection of ready to go options including sandwiches, fruit cups, yogurt etc. and some amazing pastries. We grabbed one on the way out. If you haven’t been yet, check out Avocado café and tell them...
Read moreExtremely disappointed in my previous experience. I want to start off with how delicious the tuna melts have been that I’ve been getting so I keep coming back. But this last time I called in an order for pick up and I initially asked if they offer bringing the order to the car. The guy over the phone said no and I said that’s fine. Then I believe he heard my baby in the car so he asked if I had a kid with me in the car, I said yes, so he offered to bring my order to the car. I was so relieved that I didn’t have to leave my baby in the car or bring him in and he said my order will be ready in 5 minutes. I pulled up to the store and waited 10 minutes so they had time to prepare my order. I call up and told the guy I am outside whenever my order is ready and which car to bring it to. He told me to give it another few minutes. It’s been about 20+ minutes since the order is placed and I called multiple times to follow up on my order. He kept assuring me he didn’t forget about me and give it a little more time. At this point it’s been almost a 1/2 hour and I called up again and then he tells me that I should come in because they’re busy. I’ve had more than enough patience but it was getting out of hand so I asked to cancel my order. He then told me to hold on and he brought my order to my car, didn’t say a word to me and gave me the cold shoulder. This is not okay to treat a customer this way. I’ve been nothing but kind and soft spoken over the phone. I feel like I was being dragged along and this guy didn’t stick to his word. Very unfortunate because I enjoyed...
Read moreEarlier this week my wife and I were in Seagull Square and noticed a Milchig place called Avocado. We walked in and were completely ‘taken in’ by each and every nuance integral to a perfect eatery. For starters, the owners (a warm and conscientious husband/wife team) were working hard alongside the employees, making sure the customers were receiving top notch service. The place was super clean and kept so throughout our stay. The coffee was piping hot. My wife who ordered a frappuccino was delighted that it was done right as she has had her share of ‘bad’ ones served to her elsewhere. The food was plentiful and tasted really really good. The room’s decor was airy and bright, the tables didn’t wobble and the seating (2 options- bench or chair) was comfortable and spacious. The optional kiosks were simple to operate and the menu contained just about anything your appetite could desire. They run an organized kitchen, and the food was available without delay. It was obvious that great care went into the development of this place to address every possible concern that could enhance the customer’s eating experience. Even the little details.. a bug- free environment… soft napkins that don’t rub the face raw. Oh, and the staff was eager to help, pleasant and smiley. Your store should be a model for other's to emulate. We’ll definitely...
