Birrieria y mariscos la cocina — Restaurant in Lakewood

I've been to Birrieria y mariscos twice: once for lunch during the work week and once for dinner on a weekend. Don't let the understated and humble venue and appearance lead you to believing you made the wrong choice.

My experience both times were consistently the same: I had the pleasure of absolutely mouth-watering, delicious Mexican food. Both times, I ordered their tacos and a side of beans and rice, usually with a jamaica. The rice and beans are great and taste refreshing.

The tacos are stuffed with a delicious, savory birria beef. Alone, the tacos are some of the most flavorful I have had in the area. With the cheese and cilantro it only improves. Furthermore the restaurateurs make a beautiful home-made chipotle salsa for each table that is a fantastic complement for an added kick.

The staff are all plenty cordial, down-to-earth folks who will offer recommendations. They recommended the house consumé to pair with the tacos - and I recommend you do the same. Dipping the tacos in the savory beef broth was next level.

The jamaica was mostly average both times: I recommend grabbing a bottle of Mexican coke or Jarritos instead.

All in all, for the price point and given its location this restaurant is a hidden gem that deserves...

Worst customer service I’ve experienced in a long time, I decided to come here since it’s next door to my business and the way I was treated wasn’t right, First of all the waiter or owner not sure, but was on the phone the whole time I was ordering (super unprofessional) I continue to order my food and ask for NO cheese and add Avocado on my burrito and she said okay and even charged me $2 to add witch I was okay with. So I waited for my food and could see the cook from my point of view and saw he was putting cheese on my burrito and said “excuse me sir - I don’t mean to interrupt you but I asked for no cheese and he looked at me serious and said in Spanish (too late I already put cheeee on it) and continued to make it. The waiter was nowhere to be found at the moment since she went in the back so I couldn’t complain to her. Once my food was ready I told her my situation and she was still on the phone and acted like she didn’t care or even try to make right. This situation is a perfect way to lose...

It was chilly this morning and I was craving some good, soul satisfying, comfort food. Something warm, rich and flavorful. Something indulgent and sinfully good. On a whim, I took a shot with this restaurant. I have never been there personally, but went ahead and ordered on UberEats. I got the Tacos Dorado de Birria de Res, the Quesadilla de Birria de Res and Consome. There are no pictures because I couldn't wait to dive in! Let me tell you this: it was everything I was craving! Warm, rich spices and layers of deep flavor. Fresh ingredients. Slow cooked beef. The Consome was heavenly. Very earthy to the point that you could almost taste the history of it's origins.
