Shahi Mahal Restaurant — Restaurant in Lakewood

Went to eat in this restaurant today with my friend, are you both ordered goat biriyani. The gentleman that was there served us with cold water. He looked a little grumpy but that’s how most desi uncles looks sometimes, so we didn’t mind. After waiting for 15 minutes we got our biriyani. I thought it was gonna be some authentic tasting Pakistani style biriyani but nope it was the same mediocre tasting like most places around. Still the portion was huge and goat tasted good and almost melted in your mouth. But after halfway eating my friend noticed a fly in his food that was fully cooked in his biriyani and that just killed out appetite right then and there. We both stopped eating. There was only one person there And he was the cook also so nobody supervised the front or checked in if the guest needed anything. There was another guest that was ordering take out so We waited like 10 mins just to let him know that there is a fly in the food. After we told him he went back in the kitchen all shocked and disappointed. By that point me and my friends were upset and we wanted our bill and wanted to get out of there asap. But he was still busy cooking for the other guest. After another 5 to 10 mins of waiting he came out the kitchen that’s when we asked for a bill so we can pay and leave he charged us for one biriyani. Never again. I rather go to shanawaz and eat their chicken biriyani And somebody needs to please help them all with their customer service. Lunch time Cheap Eats

Shahi Mahal Restaurant is a restaurant & banquet hall, located in the City of Lakewood & bordering Hawaiian Gardens. When I happened to become aware of their Chicken Lunch Specials, I knew I had to swing by for some spicy eats.

Chicken Behari Lunch Special- Taking awhile to come out, the Chicken Behari Lunch Special provided an ample amount of food. The chicken was moist & tender, the accompanying sauce spicy (yet, not in a mouth numbing way), and the rice & salad rounded out a solid & inexpensive plate of food.

Service was okay. Being the sole customer dining in & one person picking up takeout, the Chicken Behari Lunch Special took a little longer than I believe it should have. Of course, once on the table, the food was satisfying. A good amount of seating inside the restaurant itself, the large banquet hall has a tremendous amount of space. Iftars during Ramadan are held in there, to break the fast of those that observe it. Parking is via a private lot.

First visit ever and can’t wait to go back! Everything was delicious. I had chicken tikka masala, my daughter had the murgh makhani (butter chicken) and we shared saag paneer, vegetable samosas, and garlic naan. Every dish was expertly seasoned and the presentation was gorgeous. Some of the spiciness sneaks up on you since the sauces are so rich and creamy. Plus- we had enough for leftovers the following day so portions are generous. You must try this restaurant! Staff is very friendly and attentive. I wish I had taken photos to share....
