I look forward to a couple days a year, 1st day of football season, my birthday, Christmas.I have been going to schooners for about 6-8 years now. (for about 112 plus games plus playoffs). Today broke my heart. The food was terrible I asked for the "fire" half bread on tray. What i got looked like white plastic on a cracker there was no garnishes and it was cold, The onion rings go back and forth thru the years (fresh and frozen). this year its was costco onion rings. Is it really that hard to fry up fresh onion rings in beer batter? I mean the beer is out front right? but the worst part is that 5 of them were not cooked all the way through because they were cold inside. It also tasted like they used old oil.AHHH! then I said to myself "self maybe they are having a hard time because it was the first day of football?." but a lass no the bar was only 33% full at the time i ordered.
So, my waitress decided i must leave and gives me the check at the third quarter, which is funny because i very rarely saw her anyway. I catch her walking by about 10 min later and i ask her what's this about? she responds I thought you were done." Done with a inter divisional game at 21-21... Really?
The thing is i was about to leave and then i saw the 49ers/GB game was next so i decide to stay. So i order a dessert. it was the vanilla panna cotta. It sounded nice. It looked nice on the menu. So before it shows up the waitress comes back and says" we like to move you to the bar." I said "No, ive sat in this seat every Sunday through the football season for more than 2 years at this location, more than 2 years at your old palmdale location before you guys closed it"
So the desert arrives and it showed up looking like some bloody vaginal pus discharge on a plate with a hat of whip cream that fell off before it came to the table (if you read the description on their menu it was missing items). The waitress dropped it on the table and keep going. So i pushed it aside.
She re appears and asks are you going to eat that? really, that looks so bad i can eat that..?!she takes it away with out a word or an offer of another desert. she reappears 10 min later then asks me if i would like a different desert i said no and got the check and left.
Morale of the story is when i went by myself the bill was 15-25$ when i took my wife it was 50-75$ over the 4-6 years ive been going there to all three AV locations Ive spent more than 3k plus tips...and this is what happens to one of the few days i look forward to in my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been here quite a few times now , and for this type business/ bar , the food is phenomenal! And the portions are absolutely huge! when they say it's a " shareable for 2" you might as well make it 4!š because I can't believe the portions that they bring out . And when you put into consideration the quantity (and by the way quality is phenomenal . you do not lose out on quality because your quantity is huge) the prices are extremely good in my opinion. we had the nachos and they were fantastic. I think four people definitely could have shared those if they're want to go out for drinks and stuff . it's a meal for sure for about two to three people . And still afilling appetizer for4. we also had the fried pickles. They brought us more fried pickles on a plate than you've ever seen in your life at any other place ever! because I love them, and I've paid probably the same amount as what I would have paid for a little tiny dessert size dish of fried pickles. What this place serves is a straight platter of fried pickles! And fried pickles that were actually nice and crispy from start to finish, all of them! and the people who work there, and the other Patons seem very nice and respectful. It a very comfortable place no matter what your age is. very non-threatening, no attitudes. everybody's just out with their friends just having a good time. I enjoy going to this place. I live more towards LA and with all the different night clubs or bars or restaurants you go to , if we're all going to be honest with ourselves some kind of feel a little uptight or snobby or someplace with feel it even dangerous and threatening . This place is nothing to any of that . I don't I don't think anybody who from any Walk of Life , of any age, could go here and feel uncomfortable in any way. it's really just a great place to go with your friends , enjoy yourselves and have a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThanksgiving special at Schooners... Today was interesting and it being the holiday not sure how to rate. One of the very few places open during thanksgiving and during a pandemic. That was a plus. Being a bar/restaurant didnāt have much expectations but given the non existent choices, I decided to give it a try. At first only 4 patrons and was greeted rather quick. Given the option to sit anywhere, I did. Took a few passes from staff to finally ask me if I wanted something to drink. I ordered the Bloody Mary and it came with a bonus. Not sure what is on the cheese but I removed the entire garnish. The Bloody Mary was ok but strong which is better than being weak. I asked if I could order after waiting without being asked. I ordered the āThanksgiving Specialā which was supposed to be ham & turkey but my order was missing the ham. I noticed a table across from me order the same thing but asked the waitress to take back. Not sure why but it didnāt have ham. I can only assume thatās why. The āThanksgiving Specialā was ok... The turkey had a slight snap on my teeth but was moist and gravy had good flavor. Green beans tasted as if was from can but the toppings tasted from scratch. Stuffing and mash was pretty good. Not the greatest but better than ok. Overall besides the stuff on my Bloody Mary cheese. I canāt complain but canāt recommend either. Given the choices on thanksgiving, itās better than non. Plus, is you are supporting local business and helping the staff earn some money. Hospitality was lacking in the beginning but half way through my meal my waitress was attentive. Some slight improvements and this place can be awesome. Any other day C+. Given the...
