The Albertsons that exist here in Lancaster is actually closer to where I live, but after my cousin and brother was stalked throughout the store (being racially profiled by the security guard who followed them to every aisle and when she noticed that they noticed her she just asked if they needed any help. They walked through over 3 or 4 aisles while she literally walked behind them.)
This was one of several experiences that I’ve either heard from my family or I have experienced at this particular store.
I’m a non-confrontational person, but this coupled with some of the staff lack of customer service skills topped with my severe anxiety and feeling like a burden when I ask a question about a product in the store I decided to try Stater Bros.
When I came to the meat department I was met with a jovial and kind soul, Mr. Richard.
He was so kind it caught me off guard and I began to smile through my mask so hard. The anxiety that I was experiencing inside for that moment literally left because I was so focused on how sweet Mr. Richard was.
He was so courteous, he even pointed out the doorbell located by the meat case in the corner. Which would alert someone to help me if no one was in the meat department.
I didn’t feel like a black woman who had to look over her shoulder to make sure I was doing everything right and seem non obtrusive to anyone in the store for fear of being labeled ghetto, loud, or any other stereotype that comes with just a question or disagreeing about something.
I felt like a human being. I felt seen and heard and I didn’t feel like me asking the obvious question about a certain meat would deem me as dumb by an employee. Actually, Mr.Richard pointed out which cut of salmon would be better for my mom and I to prepare for dinner tomorrow and he was even cautious about my budget.
At the end of speaking with him he took a few more seconds to explain to me how valuable a customer is to a business. He had no idea that I went out my way to come to this store just to receive better customer service. And I received over and above service this evening.
I know this is long winded, but I simply want to say thank you.
It’s beyond just packaging some meat, I felt like I could be myself for once in that moment and not just judged by the color of my skin.
He didn’t tell me his name, I looked at...

The store on Ave L and 30 th street west has been like shopping with family. Even before the pandemic they have always been friendly, helpful and pleasant. Every staff I have encountered has been this way. I have never met a staff member with a poor attitude towards the customer. During this pandemic The staff at this store have maintained this pleasant atmosphere. Other stores I have gone to have made me feel like I was intruding unwelcome and a burden. Stater bros has never come across this way. From assistance in the store to bagging my groceries in my reusable bags when I didn’t want to buy new bags to helping me load my car when I was 8 months pregnant with twins. I now live over 30 miles away and I still drive to this store to do my grocery shopping. Thank you, staters on Ave L, for everything...
Read moreWell I don't know why they picked a picture of the beat up car because the store is very good. This is my go-to market. Like other markets you have to look for the deals because some of the stuff can be expensive. But they have a very good produce section. They're aisles are nice and wide so two people can fit through easily. I found everything I was looking for food wise and otherwise. The parking is plentiful. I also like that they have multiple registers going. I came from Van Nuys recently and I used to use a Ralphs down there and it could be lines all the way down into the produce section and they couldn't care less. They'd have one or two registers open. I also don't like that Ralphs and some of the other ones have the self-serve checkout. If I wanted to work at the store I'd apply and get a job there. I pick up my food and I got a check it out and bag it? Come on guys. Stater Brothers not this way. You got a fast check out there's always short lines they have everything you need the prices are very good. Highly...
