Many moons ago I remember this quaint little restaurant as the Rainbow Grocery.
But, that was a long time ago when I lived in Laramie.
Today, it serves up breakfast, brunch, and "Laramie's Best Burrito," which I had when a couple of friends invited me to lunch here.
Now, I don't know if the burrito I had was "Laramie's Best," as I'm sure lots of places in Laramie serve-up burritos, and I know I haven't tried them all.
But it was certainly excellent.
It contained some hash browns, bacon, scrambled eggs, etc., and a not-too-spicy chili to cover it. Mmmmmmm.
Would I recommend this cafe? Absolutely. It has both an indoor and outdoor seating area. You can't go wrong. That is, unless you get confused and take your food outside when it's three degrees and snow is piled up 16 inches on your table.
Are the prices fair? Sure enough, even though I didn't have to pay for mine :-). Besides, I didn't see anyone taking out a mortgage to pay for the meals.
Was the food good? No, it was excellent. Kudos to the chef.
And as I told Aubrey, our waitress, the burrito was "unique," and the best on our table (if not in Laramie).
You'll have to decide for yourself by giving it a try. But I doubt you'll be...
Read moreThe atmosphere at 17th Street is down to Earth and welcoming, although the dining room does get quite hot in the summer. The wait staff were attentive, getting our orders early and refilling our drinks frequently. There was some miscommunication that led to an order of pancakes arriving very late, but they took $2 off the bill for the trouble. The food is well worth its price. The French dip was piled high with a generous amount of roast beef and melted cheese. The shrimp were cooked well, equal parts crispy and succulent. The cafe's signature green chili was a perfect complement to an omelet and hash browns. We were particularly impressed by the onion rings that tasted almost like Japanese tempura. 17th Street Cafe isn't breaking any records, but all in all, they offer a...
Read moreWe look for local places to eat when we travel and this place did NOT disappoint!!!! My son had their special, the Tres Leches Waffles. They were the perfect blend of sweetness and airy fluffiness. Like if a funnel cake and pancake got together and made this!! Hubs had the Breakfast Tower, homemade biscuit stacked with eggs, has brown, & sausage covered in a delicious sausage gravy. I had the Huevos Ranchero and the made from scratch green chili was happiness in my mouth. My eggs were cooked precisely as I requested. The blend of green chili, eggs, hash brown, refried beans and toasted tortillas was perfection! They had pleasant outdoor seating and the staff were so nice, especially Moises. Highly recommend breakfast here and if I come through again I will make a point to...
