Lira's Restaurant San Bernardo — Restaurant in Laredo

I am very very disappointed at the service. I placed an order by phone. It was the Pechuga a la plancha with French fries. When I got to Liras they were charging me Pechuga PLATE (con vegetales y arroz) PLUS the French fries. I told them that it was not what I ordered and asked nicely for the order to get fixed. The cashier told me that she couldn't do that. The owner came and I was charged for the plate $8.66 when in reality the Pechuga with the French fries is $6.00. I tried to cancel the order but they wouldn't let me. I paid with a $20.00 bill and got back $11.00. I mean $20 - $8.66 equals $11.34. I got the change corrected and left the place very disappointed. I cried for over 20 minutes feeling helpless overacting since I am 3 months pregnant. Now that I am calm, I think over the situation and don't agree that any human being can be treated that way. I don't recommend the place and for sure will not go...

Update: Jan 2023. This place is still a Laredo, TX favorite for barbacoa to go...by the pound, 1.5 lbs, 2 lbs, or more.

Lira's serves decent, juicy tasting, Mexican style Barbacoa. Do not confuse it with American style BBQ, such as Rudy's BBQ. On a visit (June 2018) the flavor or spice recipe of the barbacoa had changed. It wasn't the original, distinct, flavor of 2017. Maybe the cook or recipe changed. (Down from 5 to 4 stars.)

I first encountered Lira's in Nuevo Laredo, Tamps. Mexico where they still have a food truck on Sat & Sun near Soriana Carrizo. (They sell barbacoa by the taco or kilo there.) In Laredo you can eat in the restaurant but the take out line (outside window) is quicker. Order by the pound or 1/2 pound. You get all the sides included: corn tortillas, cilantro/cabbage mix (repollo), and 2 different salsas.

In Laredo, I frequent the one on 1206 San Bernardo Ave. They also have a second location on 1302 Bartlett Ave. Don't forget they are also located in San Antonio, TX too. Español

¿Estás buscando Barbacoa (“bar-bah-COH-ah”)? Lira's sirve Barbacoa al estilo mexicano, decente y jugosa. No lo confundas con la barbacoa de estilo americano, como la barbacoa de Rudy. En una visita (junio de 2018) había cambiado la receta de sabor o especia de la barbacoa. No era el sabor original y distintivo de 2017. Tal vez el cocinero o la receta cambiaron. (Bajó de 5 a 4 estrellas).

Primero me encontré con Lira's en Nuevo Laredo, Tamps. México donde todavía tienen un camión de comida en Sat & Sun cerca de Soriana Carrizo. (Allí venden barbacoa por taco o por kilo). En Laredo puedes comer en el restaurante pero la línea para llevar (ventana exterior) es más rápida. Ordene por libra o 1/2 libra. Obtiene todos los condimentos: tortillas de maíz, mezcla de cilantro / repollo (repollo) y 2 salsas diferentes.

My favorite breakfast place in Laredo! The prices are great and the food authentic Mexican. I love the Huevos Rancheros with beans, tortillas and a dollop of barbacoa. They also serve a small dish of 'verdura' which is shredded raw cabbage, cilantro and a touch of serrano pepper, along with tiny fresh lime halves to squeeze over it. Awesome!! Service fairly good. The dining area is basic and a bit beat-up but that just fit with the...
