Skip the fish fry...which I am sad to say. We waited over an hour for our food, had called ahead because we had a large group and they told us they would reserve it, but due to bad weather and a crowd we waited over 30 min to be seated....and the place is small so no where to wait but in the doorway, so most of us sat in the car since it was raining and cold...not their issue true, but they couldn't even demonstrate the simplest of apologies for not honoring the reservation they had us make. And apparently if you are not friends with the main waiter you don't really get service at all...and your food order must have been lost as it took an hour to get the food from when they ordered....and yup they were busy and had a small kitchen, but not once did they come by to see how we were doing or if they could get some crackers for the kids...one of whom after waiting for 40 min after the 30 min wait for a table was crying because he was so hungry....when we asked if the kids food could at least be brought out we were given huffs and dirty looks. It is obvious this was a locals only place....then when they finally did bring our food...the fish was undercooked and made some of our party sick and the other food looked like it came from a can. It was just such a disappointment. Maybe if we had gone with the pizza it would have been better or at least faster, but not only did they loose my patronage...I was also supposed to tell this I work with at my large company how it was...and unfortunately I will not be recommending this place. Weather turns and kitchens get busy and all that is understandable but the absolute disrespect shown to our party when the 'regulars' had someone stopping by every 10min or so is just plain unacceptable and a horrible customer service model. I will also admit that our waitress who gave us dirty looks like a teenager when we asked for things like extra napkins yet was probably in her 40s at least told us up front she was really a waitress...and it showed, but when you have to man up...your head staff should do that checking up. I was ashamed to have brought our friends from out of state...and for the prices they charge it was just a complete shame. I hope they can learn from this and treat other customers with a little more just common courtesy...I don't expect things to go great when a place is that small and overwhelmed but you can at least be nice to your customers. And when you say you are filling the orders in the order they came....don't feed us 20 min after the table of your friends who were seated after us. Good luck earning new customers at...
Read moreWe recently visited Larkspur Pizzeria and Cafe, a place we have loved for many years. When we lived in Larkspur, this pizzeria was a familiar spot for us, and we visited it many times, always enjoying their food. The pizza was, as always, truly delicious—but unfortunately, this visit was overshadowed by poor communication, long wait times, and dismissive customer service. We ordered takeout, and before placing our order, my husband went inside to ask whether we should order in person or online. An employee specifically instructed us to place an online order but did not mention that the restaurant operates two separate ordering systems. We were not informed that their internal system had significantly shorter wait times, and as a result, we unknowingly placed our order through DoorDash, which led to excessive delays. Initially, the online system estimated 28 minutes for our order (three large 18-inch pizzas and two appetizers), but after finalizing, the wait time suddenly jumped to 66 minutes. When I went inside to address the issue, an employee attempted to help me cancel the order, explaining that their in-house system would have processed it much faster. However, canceling was not possible, and when the manager (or owner) got involved, he reacted with visible frustration, dismissing our concerns rather than offering any solution. Despite reassurances from an employee that our order would be ready sooner than the 66-minute estimate, it actually took nearly 80 minutes. At 7:45 PM, the order was still not ready, and we finally received our food at 7:55 PM. My husband also attempted to speak with the manager, only to be met with the same unhelpful and angry attitude. While one employee sincerely apologized for the situation, the overall service and handling of our concerns were unacceptable. We truly appreciate the food and have fond memories of this place from our years living in Larkspur, which makes this experience all the more disappointing. Had we been properly informed about the ordering process, we could have avoided this frustrating situation entirely. Great food is important, but customer service matters too—and unfortunately, this visit left us hesitant...
Read moreThis was the first time having pizza here, and we were hoping it could become our go to place since my wife drives through here every work day. When we walked in the place was pretty full, and filled to capacity (about 10 tables) within the next 20 minutes or so. After a few minutes of waiting I went and got some menus. The single server came over and took drink orders which came out quickly. She was definitely juggling a lot of different tasks and tables. We were not in a hurry so didn't mind too much. After another 15 minutes or she took our pizza order - an 18" Mama Mia (Sort of a mix of meats and veggies) and a 10" plain cheese.
It was a solid 45 minutes before our 2 pizzas came out. The server did not write anyone's order down, and I overheard at least two other tables who's orders were wrong. The folks who had come in before us got calzones, and their food took even longer.
The pizza was pretty good, not the best we've had. We much prefer a hand tossed kind of crust with a little crunch on the outside and a nice "chew" to it, like the pictures on their menu show. What we got was very flat and crispy, and there was no "chew" to it. Toppings were very finely diced, which I think hides some of the flavor and freshness, especially with veggies. But the overall flavor was good and we were pretty happy.
Because of the wait the server did comp ALL our drinks, which I thought was generous. Total was about $50, great value. If the two sodas and two beers had been added in, it would have been about average for a non-chain pizza place.
I know the owners read their customers reviews, which I appreciate. If I can channel my inner Gordon Ramsay I would suggest paring down the HUGE menu by a lot. There's a wide selection of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and pasta dishes in addition to a bunch of pizza options. Maybe pick your most popular couple of dishes from each category to make your lives easier? It'll save on food costs and make it easier for the kitchen to stay ahead.
Will we be back? Yes, definitely and we'll try to pick a...
