The food is really good, especially by Indianapolis seafood standards, which are absurdly low. This is most definitely not one of those ubiquitous strip mall fish and chicken places. Caplinger's seems to have access to some pretty high quality, fresh seafood, and they definitely know how to serve it up. The basa fillets (their specialty) are excellent, and that's not a fish I typically care for. They also make a mean soft shell crab, which is really hard to find around Indy.
It gets busy a lot, and the waits can be insanely long, although not as bad as their mothership location at 75th/Shadeland. I've had moderate success ordering online and picking up. They warn you when you order that your food may not be ready when the website says it will, but in my experience they're usually pretty close. Just depends on how busy they are. As good as the food is, it's not necessarily worth ridiculous waits, in my opinion.
The people working there can be a bit cold and standoffish, but I wouldn't say rude. I've seen them have to deal with more than a few unreasonable and inconsiderate customers, so I imagine they keep their guard up for the most part. They do their jobs well, but you may not get a warm greeting and a smile.
Overall a very good place to pick up some...
Read moreI eat at this location very often (I.e once sometimes twice a week) food is very tasty!!! The heavy set guy that works the window I believe his name is Phillip but I think he goes by Phil I’ve caught him twice while he was the cook and the food was awesome to say the least!! There is one thing that rubs me the wrong way the guy that cooks all the time ( older guy ) he is not professional at all ( the way he speaks to the other employees is very rude and unprofessional and does it while customers are there which is very rude and unprofessional) there was a issue with a customer one particular day and the guy at the window was very polite and was addressing the situation in a professional way ( the error was with the online ordering website obviously nothing to do with the guy at the window) and the cook just got very rude with the lady on top of that he was yelling at the lady from a far, not for sure if he is the manager but he needs to take a course on customer service. I let it slide a few times but I had to make a review after this last time cause it seems like it happens every time and that’s not appropriate at all. The food is great and the guy in the window is great!!! But that...
Read moreI understand your next to a hotel making good money. But you have to serve fresh food in the process. I ordered 2 perch dinners and fries. And when I received both dinners you could tell the fish had been cooked way earlier. Most food that is freshly cooked is piping hot. Well this wasn't, it appeared to be old and the fries were greasy. I was very disappointed especially after paying my hard earned money for something I wasn't happy with. I notice the cashier moving quick talkin slick while all the while serving BS! Slow down everybody aint DUSTY! alot of us are decent people that want good service. We are in a PANDEMIC we don't want old food or un freshly cooked food or microwave food. We are giving you our money so we would like good service. Thats all we ask. Some of us know the difference. Make sure no one is getting ripped off so please be consistent with the prices. We are not happy with SHORT CUTS. Thankyou! And continue...
