So it took me a little  while to actually write this review so here it goes. I am originally from North Miami, FL and you can find Haitian food almost everywhere and a lot of those places are real good and you can get a decent amount of food for your buck. Like eat some now, save for later type amount. IYKYK. I would pay at MOST $15 for a griot plate with a separate container for just my rice  with a decent serving cup of pikliz. But I moved to GA about a year ago and if I didn't cook it, I wasn't having any Haitian food. I went out on a whim and after googling and reading reviews I stumbled on this place and I am still kinda meh about the experience. My order was 1 legume plate with white rice and sauce pwa, 1 griot plate with diri kole, fried Plantains and a side salad, 1 Bouillon, and 5 Pate. My total came out to $70 and some change. Also asked for 2 extra pikliz and was charged $2.10. The pikliz comes in the smallest cup they could find. The griot was also dry. When I picked up my order I made sure to ask the cashier about my patties being in the bag but when I got home, 32 minutes away, I realized my patties weren't with the food. I had to make the drive the next day for the patties because I paid for them and ended up ordering a griot plate for someone and my total for just that plate was $21. They didn't give any sauce that time though. The patties literally have the smallest amount of meat I have ever seen. They should call it a puff pastry with a smidgen of meat and not a pate. The portions don't match the price and the sauce pwa is mostly liquid, kinda salty (to me), with maybe 3 beans at the bottom of the container. All in all, I won't be back. It wasn't worth the drive. It's overpriced and just OKAY. I didn't think this was how they did things in GA. I miss home lol.

On a weekend visit to Georgia, a friend took me to La Citadelle Bakery to order some authentic Haitian Pates. On Friday, I ordered 2 dozen Chicken to share with the host family, and with just one bite, my “gustatory bud” was hit with a highly seasoned, full of taste, and well-spiced elation and fell in food lust. I devoured a few filled with ample moist and juicy fillings of beef, chicken, and morue that was infused with a blend of aromatic and flavorful seasonings. I shared some with several friends, and within minutes, they were consumed. On Saturday, I was back for two more dozen, and they were even more delicious, and my taste buds were captivated. Knowing I soon would be returning home, before I hopped on that flight, I ordered 6 baker’s dozen to haul back to Chi-Town and instructed the cashier that I had to find a way for me to order and send express to my home. Undeniably, the best pates in my 50+ years of experiencing the Haitian food culture (Sorry mama, but they slightly had an edge with their savory baked fluffy, flaky, crispy golden brown exterior crust that was buttery, light, and airy in texture). I also loved their hearty soup joumou, Rice and bean sauce, turkey, pikliz and fried plantains. The staff (Rose) was friendly, attentive, accommodating, and efficient. She took my contact info to make the Fed-Ex delivery happen. Prices were moderate to slightly pricey, but considering the food is well prepared with authentic Haitian spices and provides a positive sensory experience, I don’t dare complain. Wish you had a restaurant in the Chicago area!

I've been here a few times to take out the Haitian black rice and the beef pastries and the herring pastries, and I'm very satisfied with the way the food tastes, however, customer service can be a little bit more upbeat, but perhaps they were tired,, the few times I went in. The last time I went in their debit card machine was broken and I stood and waited about 30 minutes, while they was trying to fix it, I finally asked if they take cash app and was told I could pay through zelle but since I didn't have zelle they made arrangements for me to pay through cash app. You would have thought for the inconvenience they would have took something off the bill, or gave me a pastry or drink, or something just as a customer service gesture, or at least offered, but it's OK. I think they could work on the customer service skills, like they say, "You get more flies with honey than you do with vinegar," but, . I will be visiting again because I do like the food.

My friend’s parents, many moons ago, use to own this bakery/restaurant so knowing that, made it such a pleasure to go to.

When my best friend and I was looking for houses back Jan 2020 she decided she wanted some Haitian food. We were getting ready to drive back to NC I did a Google search and found La Citadelle was on the way.

We met a gentle and very kind man, Evans, I believe was his name. Evans’ pleasant, inviting attitude and service was amazing and the food was just as amazing. I felt like I was eating from my, my mother’s or sister’s kitchen (We can throw down some Haitian food, for real).

When I moved and bought a house in Lawrenceville I didn’t realize how close I was to the restaurant so this was great news. When I went back months later I saw Evans and again everything with my order that day was great.

Fast forward, I never see Evans again but these very young ladies. Food is severely overpriced and the styrofoam container have gotten smaller. Food became a hit or miss or they never have it ready or available. How are you running out of food and you’ve been open for 2 hours and there’s no lines outside

I give all places a chance but after the 3rd chance and my Dad (as Haitian as he can be and 82 years young at that time) he was like “What is this, where’s the food, That’s all” It was the time I’ve been there

I gave it 2 stars because I do love the patties the patties seem to always be great

I hope they really make some changes because I’m sure they can be really great. Please to the owner take my review as help to change...
