Don't cater a party from Cafe Petra; you will be disappointed.
I volunteered to cater a dinner party with friends. Even though Google said the restaurant is 23 minutes from my house, I fell for the FB ads and decided to order from Cafe Petra in League City. So I put in an online order for pickup at 7pm. The order was for $180. Even though I don't always tip for carry out that I order, pickup, and deliver myself, I left an extra $20 tip just to make sure that they'd get the order right [making the total just over $200].
I arrived at the restaurant at 7pm, and there were 2 bags of food waiting on me. I specifically asked the cashier if they'd checked everything very carefully so that I wouldn't have to tear it apart and verify each item; I had, after all, left a $20 tip that was really just for the person who put the food in the bag. And sure enough, she assured me that yes, they'd checked the order very carefully.
When I got home, the order was missing not one but two items [a total of 12% of the food by cost]: the large baba ghanoush [$11.95], and the chicken kabob [$9]. I called the restaurant and asked why they'd told me that they'd carefully checked the order when they clearly hadn't; they offered no answer. And I asked them to refund what I'd paid for the things that I didn't get. They told me that my only option was to drive all the way back [45 minutes round trip] and get the two things that they'd left out. I told them that I was not about to leave a house full of guests for 45 minutes to fix their mistake. They finally said that the manager would call me back that evening to arrange a refund.
It's been more than 24 hours since I placed my order, and nobody ever called back. I guess I'll have to take up with my credit...
Read morePetra's Restaurant is a small yet cozy café-style establishment that serves the communities of League City and Nassau. Despite its size, Petra's offers a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes it a delightful spot for a casual meal.
The Service: When we arrived, there was only one person managing the front of the house. She was incredibly efficient and prompt, ensuring that newly arrived guests were attended to swiftly. While it's clear that one person handling both the front and to-go service is not ideal for a restaurant, she managed to be effective, cordial, and helpful throughout our visit. The locale was in good shape, especially considering the understaffing, though my table was sticky and not as clean as I would have liked.
The Food: The food at Petra's was well-served, with an appealing presentation and balanced flavors. Every dish we tried was fully cooked and delicious. For a small neighborhood restaurant, the quality of the food was impressive. I particularly enjoyed the Lebanese Tea with lime, which had a refreshing, slightly acidic taste. The prices are competitive compared to other places offering Persian cuisine, making it a good value for the quality of food provided.
My final general thought: For a small, neighborhood restaurant with just one staff member managing seven or eight tables, the service was commendable, and the food was tasty and well-presented, served at the ideal temperature. If you're looking for a cozy spot to enjoy a good meal at a reasonable price, Petra's Restaurant is worth a visit. Hopefully, they'll have a full staff to make your experience even...
Read moreI took my mom here, this evening around 8:00 P.M., as a belated Mother’s Day treat, and I’m so glad we chose this spot. From the moment we walked in, the staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive. Kindness that remained consistent through our entire visit.
I ordered the Chicken or Gyro Shawarma Pasta (they gave me both, but, yes, they let you choose!) and my mom had the Petra Sandwich. Both dishes were not only flavorful and satisfying, but came in generous portions that made it well worth the price. What stood out most was the genuine care behind the food and the service. The waitress even took the time to explain how they make the house dip that comes with the Petra Sandwich. That level of transparency shows confidence and a true passion for their craft—not just profit.
The atmosphere was another plus: not overly crowded for a Friday night, plenty of parking, and surprisingly quiet inside. The TV was on mute, conversations were easy to have without raising your voice, and everything just felt relaxed. Like a place that respects your time and presence.
As someone who hasn’t dabbled much in Greek food due to lack of exposure, I can honestly say this was a fantastic choice. I’ll definitely be coming back. Businesses like this deserve...
