I have been a fan of Schmizza for years. This visit was not so good. I gave it a 3/10 instead for a 2/10 because of its past history. We have been visiting microbreweries and places that serve microbrewery beers with food. We are covering Eugene, Corvalis and Lebanon. When we started Schmizza was the 5/10 that is what I rated the other establishments against. We have found few places that did great on food and beer, and many that failed in either one or both of these categories. Now for the review. Beer list. I like dark brews, Schmizza had several dark brews, but flavoring was close to the same on all of them. I like a low acid, full body beer with some added flavors. I ask the waitress for suggestion and that some of the beers tasted like, and she had no idea. Several other establishments give you the qualities about each beer, it would be nice for wait staff and customers in decision making. This has never been a problem in the past at Schmizza because the wait staff could help you refine what beers would best suite you .
Food: The food has the same great taste, BUT 3 of the dishes came out medium warm, one hamburger was cold and one dish did not show up until we were ready to leave. The waitress did not charge for the hamburger and the one late dish, but it still ruins the atmosphere. Wait times between each step were long. Waiting for waitress to talk about brews, Getting taste testers, taking the order for brews, getting brew, waiting to take order for food, waiting for food, received the check before we received all of the food. We spent over 2 hours between eating and waiting. I would have taken the time to drink more brews but none of them were good enough to order a second beer.
I will give them another shot in a year, and hopefully...
Read moreMy wife and I went for dinner on a Friday night and we thought food was delicious, but the service was lacking. It felt like the servers did not have assigned tables. The wait for the food was not bad, but they did forget my drink until I asked for it again. After our food came we did not see our server till we paid our bill. When we finished eating we sat for about 20min before a different server came and cleared our dishes. The server asked if we would like desert, we said yes and they said that they would be back with a menu. They never came back. We sat for about another 20min before I had to go ask a server for our check, we decided to skip desert. They said that they would bring my check, so I went back to my table and waited for another 20min before asking again for my check. The second time I was successful in getting my check but I had to wait another 20min before someone came to take my card so I could pay. During all of this waiting we saw several two to three party groups come in and stand at the door waiting for a server to greet them, after waiting for about 10min the party would leave. You have a sign that says "please wait to be seated". But your servers are to busy to greet anyone since to they are trying to find their tables. Suggestion, add an actual host station Durning your busy hours to greet people as they come in and to give them an idea as to the wait time. Also assign servers to specific tables so they are are not having to figure out which...
Read moreNot bad, but in my opinion, not worthy of the high cost. I'm happy to pay more for better quality service, food, and atmosphere, but in my opinion, the higher cost was not reflected in the food quality, service, or atmosphere.
To be fair, this was my first time visiting this establishment, and I usually will give a business a second chance to show me something different. I will give this business a second chance and will update my second visit here. The food was alright, but wasn't on par with lower-priced chains. We ordered the sweet potato fries, chicken tenders, and brussel sprouts. I did enjoy the brussel sprouts, but they were about as tasty as the frozen, seasoned ones you can get at the grocery store, which are also tasty, but much less expensive. The sweet potato fries were not as flavorful as the frozen ones we cook in our air fryer, and the chicken tenders were very good, but again, about as good as the frozen ones you can purchase at the supermarket. I don't want to give the impression that I didn't like the food/experience, because it was alright - but it would have been just as tasty and easy to buy these frozen and toss them into our air fryer, for a fraction of the price. The wait staff was very pleasant though, and as I said, I will give them another try and either order the same thing to see if the quality was the same, or I'll order something else to see if other items are tastier. Not bad though,...
