Update: We hadn't had China King in so long, so ordered it for dinner and it was honestly really disappointing. I'm not sure what happened with the quality of the food or ingredients, but it just wasn't very good. We called the restaurant to see if their buffet was open, since we haven't been there since before the pandemic forced buffets to close. The woman who answered said "NO. TAKEOUT ONLY" and immediately hung up, so we called back to place a takeout order....regretfully. The rice is not rice that typically comes with Chinese food . I was expecting jasmine rice that stuck together, and what we got was honestly the equivalent to Uncle Ben's. It didn't seem like the rice was washed or prepared correctly, even having grains that weren't fully cooked. The white rice tasted dirty, and the fried rice tasted nothing like fried rice (honestly I'd compare it more to a casserole with rice in it than I would to actual fried rice) Not enough ginger, not enough soy sauce. The meat dishes were fine, though it was also said that it's not as good as it once was. We got the little sugar buns that most Chinese restaurants carry, and they were the wrong texture and tasted like dirty cooking oil, like a soft slice of wonderbread that got dropped on a bar floor. Egg rolls tasted frozen.
My previous review suggests that China King is a good alternative to China Lobster, and that statement no longer applies. Maybe we'll try again in a few years, but whoever is currently cooking needs a different job.
------- old review is below---- Checked out the reviews before ordering and saw that most of them were good. I'm not really inclined the believe a bad review that cant spell the word "terrible." Lo. So we went ahead an ordered.
Honestly the cheapest chinese food in the area. The same order from China Lobster would cost 7 dollars more. So finding someplace close that is cheap is exciting.
Food was pretty darn good. I'm so picky about the texture of rice, but theirs was perfect. Not too wer, but it wasn't dry like a lot of other places give you. Chicken was pretty good. I'd speculate that it's dark meat, but I don't have a problem with that at all. It wasn't greasy or overcooked.
Portion size is pretty big. 4.95 for a big pint with rice is definitely reasonable. And they stuffed the container full to the point that the flaps didn't close the whole way and it was held shut by the wire handle. You definitely get your moneys worth.
So if you're in the area and craving Chinese, this is the best you'll get. Do NOT waste your time hopping across the bridge to get Asia Cuisine. (If you do that, you, your wallet, AND your toilet will learn...
Read moreGreat food and great people. Love that its local and no runs to the city. Do yourself a favorite and get your Chinese there. From here is an update of 5 months later. I had a 5 star review previously but after eating there tonight and my brother eating there last night I've had to revise my review. Asked for extra spicy and no spice, wife got sesame chicken with no sesame seeds on it rice tasted boiled not fried and the general tso chicken tasted like metal. Highly disappointed. Not the same place I use to enjoy. Hope they get back in order or will have to search for...
Read moreWent in expecting the small Chinese joint I frequented in high school. Came to find that they bought the closed Hallmark next door and expanded into a sit-down restaurant and buffet! I ordered General Tso's chicken, orange chicken, house-special fried rice, and shrimp & broccoli. Food was good for small-town Chinese. Fresh, hot, good ingredients. Having eaten at ALL the local Chinese places (Leechburg, Apollo, Vandergrift, New Ken, etc), this is by far the best and will continue to receive...
