This is a casual country restaurant with a down home feeling. It has a simple menu, plus daily specials are posted on a blackboard. Traditional southern comfort food such as meatloaf, bbq ribs, chicken and catfish are popular favorites. Weekends offer an all you can eat catfish special. For special days the menu will include rabbit, quail and frog legs, so call ahead to see if those are offered if they interest you. Parking is free but sometimes can be hard to find and you might park across the street. I recommend this as a casual dining experience, servers dress casual, seating is comfortable casual and food is great at a good price.
03-30-2 24 In town and decided to have dinner before leaving. Mixed review today. Food was good. This is a favorite of locals and they work towards a quality product.
However, I noticed a tiny dark one on my plate and tried to convince myself it was a scratch in the plate. It wasn't, and it was a tiny hair. As I was finishing, I noticed near it was a longer dark hair (maybe 1-1/2 inches). Luckily, I was done at that point.
During the meal, my BBQ sandwich had a large piece of gristle, I guess that's what it was.
She had the beef tips and it was good. However, they don't come with sautéed oinions as she was expecting, our mistake, but take note if you are accustomed to such.
Overall, the food was good. But the hairs really bothered me. I pointed out the hairs to the waitress as she collected the plates and suggested she should check the kitchen for hair nets. She asked if I wanted to see a Manger but I said no. I don't like making a scene.
At the checkout, I was asked if everything was fine. I did tell her about the hair and that the server was informed. Also, the quality issue of the BBQ. I guess one of the ladies was a manager and she adjusted the bill (I didn't ask for a discount) and she apologized.
We will be back as this might have been an employee problem. I will definitely be watching closer be I start eating next time. Since they apologized and discounted the meal, they...
Read moreI wish I could rave about this small, "has the perfect small-town vibe" restaurant. I simply cannot. My mum and I were looking forward to a prime rib. Bold choice, right? But, since they moved down here, we've not had a good steak dinner. Nothing against the area; there's simply not that option. We walked in and were utterly charmed! The waitresses were all wearing jerseys from the local highschool; there were paper footballs with each players' name plastered on the walls; and the entire atmosphere was jovial. The menu should have been a red flag, but hindsight is 20/20, isn't it? It's printed in teeny tiny font, and the majority of offerings were more like pub food than fine dining, but prime rib is a dish unto itself. One need only season and bake it.... We ordered some appetizers, and the fried pickles were AMAZING!! Then the meal came, and things went sideways. I ordered my meat medium-rare and mother went with medium. Both of our steaks were cooked all the way through. Worse yet, they were tough. I'm talking inedibly tough. Ultimately, I was left with the notion that our meats had been intensely seasoned, microwaved, and thrown on the grill. Typically, the kitchen will dip the prime rib into au jus before sending it out to the diner, because the juice will make the meat appear more appetizing. Nope. It came out looking like the grilled, all-leather upper of a size 9 business shoe. Not to belabor the point, but even the loaded baked potato was only "meh." It came without chives/scallions, and the bacon was completely burnt. The side of green beans was simply canned beans that had been warmed. Honestly, this establishment doesn't merit the single star I gave it. The $20 (I know, another red flag) I would have been more pleased to get Taco Bell and be...
Read moreI ordered the patty melt with fries. It consisted of 2 meat patties covered in sautéed onions and cheese served on Texas toast. The sandwich was very good, but the meat was a bit overcooked and rather dry. The accompanying fries were cooked to perfection and perfectly seasoned. My wife ordered the Farmer Brown, their take on a Kentucky hot brown. There are 2 choices, a half order or a full order. If you order the full order, you should fully expect to take half of it home to eat another day. The portion size is large. The open faced sandwich was very tasty and covered in piles of deliciousness. My only complaint is that the ham was tough to cut. The bite I had was very good, though. The prices were fair, the service was top notch, and I would definitely eat here again if I'm in town.
So, today, 1-24-25, I made a special trip 1 1/2 hours each way just because I was craving the Farmers Hot Brown! And boy, it was worth the trip! It was worth the money as is, but still the ham was a little hard to cut ( next time I'll ask for a steak knife), and I ordered a full serving, and it would benefit from an extra piece of bacon. I would pay extra for one more piece of bacon. That said, I'm still looking forward to...
